been working for a small shop fitting company, who usually pay after a couple of days chasing.
i am worried now as they have laid 2 labourers off who were on books, and they still owe me a weeks wage. a good weeks wage.

problem is they have 2 flats to skim on price which i cant afford to turn my back on. i was told today (by women in office) they can make me wait 30 days before payin sub-contractors ........ and this is the norm.

i have worked for many large companies usually invoice tuesday latest then paid the friday.

anyone know the rules on this.
thanks

Yep, thats normal mate.... Its only nice firms that pay quickly and normally small firms.

Had the same a few weeks back and the cheque arrived..... good luck

i completed a job in exeter on jan the 10th cheque arrived yesterday ..... make sure you know the payment terms before you take on the job. I had to pay the boys weekly so had to make sure i could afford to take on the job if that makes any sence

i still have not been paid from this company and its been 30 days.
i have spoke to the women in the office (the gaffers wife) last thursday for her to start screaming at me down the phone saying i shouldn't be self employed if i cant wait 1 month for my wages.
thing is i have not been paid since feb 25th and that was only 480 after tax the owe me near £2000 now and i have bills comin out my ears let alone bank charges.
i need some serious advice on how to get this money, can i add interest.
who do i speak to?
i gave invoice in on the 7th march.

If you get no joy from chasing them go and see citizens advice they have helped me out when ive been chasing money, im not too clued up on the the whole waiting 30days tho as i generly only do site work and usually paid weekly or fortnightly, even when ive done jobs for shop fitting firms and small builders always had my money either at the end of the job pretty quickly

i am same napper i work on site, this shopfitting firm has been site work as the owner has tried his hand at converting a small building into flats, the fact is his wife is a hairdresser and aslo does the books.
she hasn't got a clue, and u cant talk to the women as she is that stressed she just goes ballistic down phone.
she has lost previous invoices but i sorted that. im just hoping she has not lost this 1

try going to see the bloke, dont lose it just try explaining that his wife seems to be getting nasty when youve been polite.. she sounds like a idiot with an ego problem..

if you do go to see the bloke take a copy of the first invoice, just incase they give it the i cant find your bill trick.there are other options to use further down the line good luck

just spoke to him and he told me they dont have to pay until 30 days (i have never heard of this in my yrs being a subby)
anyway i said 30 days is up and he just said it will be in today (which it is not) or tomoz.
he told me that no companies pay their subbies every week because then your classed as employed if you recieve a weekly wage, but every company i have worked with (sub-contracting) has paid me every week as though i was employed, and i have worked for 4 large drylining and plastering companies all for over 6 months each.

i was the same as a 'subby' working for one firm all the time.. its just a loophole so they get out of paying you holidays etc.. paid every week in the bank..
different on one off jobs for other firms though.. can wait ages.. always find out when your gonna get paid ..

Sounds to me like they have cashflow problems. Always get payment terms agreed before you start, so you know where you stand. If they've not paid by the end of the week, ring her up and ask if she likes playing "Rape The Hairdresser"

Sounds like they have money cash flow probs to me too mate. There just delaying till they get some money in,dont do anymore to you get paid.if you dont get paid go and smash the work you did off.

I would send them a reminder and a copy of the invoice telling them that payment is now overdue etc, make sure that you send it by recorded delivery so there is no excuse for it being lost or they saying they didn't receive it in case you need to tale matters further.

today has been interesting, i have yet to recieve payment and again i ring his wife.
she tells me she not doin invoices today they will be done tuesday (14th) so i put phone down and ring him.
we argue to which i threaten to go up there and rip it all down, he says come on then to which i say i cant because i have no diesel due to u not payin. the convo turned sour i threaten legal advice he says go on. some1 slams phone down.

phone rings 5 mins later with him sayin he will put my money through today. (i have heard that b4) also asked me if i wanted to finish his job.
the lobby into these flats is yet to be done due to plumbers but should be ready by now. i say no think you should get some1 else, he then says he was goin to take me on books as he has a contract for asda and lidl with lots of work. (they already do william hill)

should i carry on or get my money and not work for him again.
times are bad and i could do with the work but he could be talkin out his (very bad german word)

cheers lads

Sounds like he needs you more than you need him. Get your money then negotiate a good hourly rate if he wants you on the books. Don't back down or he will walk all over you.

get the money owed first.then go on the card's and ask to be payed weekly that way you can only get done for a week's work.if he want's the lobby done ask for half of the money up front
