Swimming pool ceiling

Hi Guys

Swimming pools, especially the ceilings, need to be designed and specified differently to dry walling and suspended ceilings in general - mainly as a result of the Chlorine in the atmosphere.... (even in non-chlorinated pools - such as UV treated water pools - specialist systems are best used).

EN standards call for the metalwork to have an extra 20 micron paint coating to them, to stop the chlorine effecting and advancing any rusting process. It is not advisable to have any organic (gypsum based) boards in the highly humid environment - the moisture will soften the boards and finish over time; then, particularly in a ceiling environment, they will degrade and fall down.

Knauf can offer a completely specified and supplied coated stud walling / ceiling system with Knauf Aquapanel Interior, finished with either tiles (when within 2 mtrs of the pool area) or Knauf Aquapanel Interior Skim (which is then painted with a suitable paint - by others).

If you have a specific project that you would like us to review and supply a formal specification for, drop me a PM or E Mail (with the project details and location) to [email protected] or to Knauf Technical at t[email protected] and we will assist further.

The Knauf Aquapanel Interior Skim is a specially formulated version of the Knauf Ready Mixed Plasters range - It has extra anti-fungicidal and chemical resistant elements within it. It is best spray applied using an airless spray machine, but can be hand applied.

I have looked for the data sheets and installation details on the Knauf Website, but it is not there at the moment... I will address this ASAP...

In the meantime, if anyone wants the data sheets and or further info, drop me a mail at [email protected] or contact Knauf Technical via 01795 424499.

Thanks

BTW - I know that @Curry has used the Knauf Aquapanel Interior Skim many times, and knows the spec and systems... I am sure he will give a 'spreads' opinion on them...

Thanks

Hi Mog

Aquapanel Interior needs to have a larger fixing flange than that available on a standard MF grid - Knauf usually specifies an acoustic grid system for non-pool spec's anyway.... It will also need to have the extra coating to protect from chemical attack...

This may be a spec created by the Architect or Keim themselves....

Feel free to contact us to assist you with getting the correct spec to avoid potential issues later - 01795424499 - ask for technical and explain what you are trying to do, or call me directly.

Hi Gooner

Knauf have several finish options for a pool area - I think you are referring to the older (and now more expensive) based product solution - this is usually a multi coat application and needs some sanding to get a smooth finish prior to painting. The newer Ready Mixed Plaster solution, is much faster and easier to finish (much easier to spray apply, but can be hand applied).

You are correct, the boards are left with a gap and we the advise the use of our Joint Filler Grey and Tape, prior to either application (it is possible to use a flexible tile adhesive in the joints if you are going to tile them).

If you have some projects, let us know

Good Luck!

Richard

Nothing to do with me runs!, we are doing the swimming pool , its the builder who is doing the building side of the job, who are you then a plasterer or something to do with aquapanel ?, they have a load of plaster in orange bags waiting for plasterers to skim them boards with ....
