My builder is pricing up refurb for a hotel. Client wants a new ceiling in swim pool room. Currently suspended ceiling aparently. Whether thats tiles i dont know.

Can i use board and skim in a room like this or would acoustic and joint have to be used?

Reckon @gooner59 is your man, I would imagine moisture board but never done one so with the high moisture level at the ceiling constantly it must need something

Swimming pools are a nightmare. Had one in my house in London.problem is humidity levels in the room. ventilation , air conditioning or the lack of
Ask for a spec and follow it then you will not get blamed if it all goes tits up.

We did a swimming pool room about 15 yrs ago and used fire line on the ceilings and skimm. There was some really expensive paint specified too but can't remember what it was called. The walls were floated sand and cement with waterproofer.

Dave the dog just rang me and said if i could put on for him ..... ' can you not just skim the suspended ceiling tiles , bonding to stick them together then skim ? ' he said his lap top is playing up or some thing . Obviously overloaded off all the info he has put through it

Hi Guys

with chlorinated pools, you need to use specially coated studs and ceiling support systems. As has been stated, traditional gypsum boards are also not suitable for this environment either, the humidity and moisture in the air eventually softens them and causes issues.

Knauf have a full system for swimming pools, with coated studs and ceiling systems and then Knauf Aquapanel Interior with a specialist plaster for the environment.

Get in touch with Knauf office on 01795424499 and ask for your local specification manager for assistance.
@Dansouthcoast84 has been in touch via message, i am awaiting his call!!

Hi Dan

Your Knauf Drywall rep is a guy called Ian Stevenson

Knauf Aquapanel is sold into the UK via Knauf Drywall. Although Knauf Drywall and Knauf Marmorit are all part of the BIG Knauf global business, the businesses are managed differently to each other in the UK. Marmorit choose to trade directly with some customers and Knauf Drywall go through outlets...

Hi all
question re Indoor swimming pool room
The walls in the room are blockwork and i have timber joists , i guess i have no choice from reading this thread to use knauf aquapanel for the ceiling but on the wall could i use the knauf interior skim on to a render coat instead of fixing the aquapanel boards which would cost quite a bit

I was planning on using gypsum skim but again thanks to the info on this site can see this is a no no , looking for a smooth white skim finish ,any thoughts ideas?

Hello Mate

If the walls are not going to get wet, then a quality paint will protect a thin gypsum skim, but building out off blocks using Gypusm and then a skim may well cause later problems.

It I was you, I would contact some of the render system suppliers and get a render finish for the walls that are designed to get wet - some offer smooth finishesd - I would ask for a sample before commiting though....

Good Luck!

Hi
Thanks for the reply
I was thinking of a sand cement first coat and then using aquapanel skim coat which is non gypsum and suitable although this skin is designed for their aquapanel boards
I will look at the render options ,looking for a very smooth skim type finish .
Thanks againn
