tanking question

ave went to see a job today a reasonably small on a small partion wall to skim and sum plasterboard pactching in the ceiling but then he showed me an area were it is going to be a shower the back wall is a two coat plaster exterior wall the side one is a plasterboard wall both been skimmed and painted no sign off damp but he want something put on the wall to prevent any water getting behind the tiles that will eventually be getting put there and penetrating the wall causing damp and the plaster board to warp will sand and cement with a water proofing does this I have no experience in this sort off thing so just looking for suggestions

Tile adhesive if waterproof will do that. You could offer to ka tank it,

Shower tanking system just paint it on to plasterboard as the grout sometimes fails

Yes definitely needs Tanking for shower's most adhesive manufactures make a system that should be used for sure , tile's/grout/adhesive are not waterproof and will leak and fail in time if not straight away .

How about the waterproof stuff,

Well the fact it's from a diy shed should tell-you straight away !! its sh%* , then it's tubbed pre-mixed adhesive ( more SH%* ) lol read the small-print and you will eventually find the words water-resistant ( meaning leaks like a sieve ) LOL

Lots of quality products in tile adhesive too. I think you may be too anti the idea of waterproof tile adhesive.. You can dab plasterboard with waterproof tile adhesive.

John this is what i specialise in really mate ,there are not adhesives on the market at the moment that are deemed waterproof take it from me ,not anti just know what i'am on about, if you don't believe me ! go on to the tilersforum and as them , also i never said you could not dab plasterboard on with tile addy, but this would be an expensive way to proceed , and not very economical, so why would you do that ?

The dot and dab would only be on small areas as its expensive. I stand corrected re the adhesive then, odd though that some use hardwall or bonding in bathrooms while relying on waterproof adhesive to protect same. I would only use sand cement waterproofer in bathrooms

No mate the idear is when the plasterboard is fixed then the whole of the inside of the plasterboard/tilebackerboard is then tanked and this provides a waterproof interior so water from the inside does not get-out only through the drain or de-humidifier , hope this makes sense mate

It is the right way to tile a bathroom/wet room Spank always tank !! wet areas ,as you say lots of bodgers don't and it is the customers who suffer , it can be very hard getting the message over to tilers that are set in bad ways of working practice ,the same with plasterers who lean bad practise , look how long it's taken to get the message of not using PVA in wet areas and instead using SBR ......

Whent to start tanking a whole swimming pool today, got there somerset from whales no tanking k11 arrived so got payed for the day was home by 1am ,and will start again tomorrow Bankers !!!

How long do they take from start to finish mate? Seems like you have been on it a while

its sorted now been in touch and hes going with the tanking systems u mentioned so its good as a can concentrate on the plastering

sorry mate been on book of face , no i'am on several all at the moment all different stages and places , mainly in the west-country , the last one is rendered/screeded/tanked and now curing , ( my excuse lol ) , now just tanking one then tiling, a few with start dates , oh and i have a labourer now i can afford -one , which is a great help at my age LOL......
