BRistish gympsum do a course which is supposed to be quite good and i dont thnk its too pricey ill try an find out for you

i think so mate they do a machine taping course aswell dont know how far tonym is from you but he's into taping isnt he??

yes mate prob a bit too far though.....what do you think tony r these courses worth a wank?

I don't know about your part of the country Spunky but from what I gather a lot of the builders around my way have stopped taping and jointing in favour of skimming, in fact I've just won a couple of big houses that are to be dot & dab and then skimmed right through.

i dont blame em mate .....ive been offered a bit of work though plus the appeal of been able to sit down once or twice during the day ;D

we are working for a firm that do more tape jointing than plastering and are a sound bunch of lads so i can practice on their jobs and hopefully they wont kick me off ;D............tbh its need must mate theres bugger all out there at the min

exactly mate ;)......................................................im gonna do a plumbing course next ::)

you see alot of tape and jointing in the shop fitting industry, to be honest tho spunky, if you watch a bloke doing it, you'l pick it up easy, its a piece of pi55

Alright Spunky! A short course would teach you the basics. It's not hard to learn. You could spend a couple of days with me if you want (and that's not a proposition), although at the moment i'm doing small boarding and taping/coving jobs. If you do go for a course, do the machine taping one as once your kitted up, you can earn decent money even if the rates are crap.

hi guys any one used universal one coat? need to go over artex in a hurry
how quick do you want it to be? a set of skimming using multi finish with 2 coats takes three hours? not quick enough?
besides, one coat is a backing/finish plaster combined?
it sounds like you're not a plasterer so my advise would be to ring a plasterer... OR you could have a go yourself...
wouldnt recommend it though... or polycell smoothover either for that matter... not if the missus has anything to do with it ;D

tony i was chatting to a jointer today and he said forget the courses there rubbish cause they wont teach you how to get over problems .....which is fair enough ???....(bit of a knob though so is he lying?).......he's using a machine mate feck me :o i know what you mean he's got one for putting the tape up in the corners ...how much was that mate ........about a grand :o...then another for putting the mud on like a twitcher with a box on it and i was rubbing my fingers over it (he'll hate me in the morning ) and it was absolutely perfect !.........is the hand applying trickier ?..........thanx mate if i can make it where are you cornwall? that would be sound can we play it by ear ;)....

You'll use more gear by hand jointing, and the first coat (joint filler/fast set) is normally done by hand anyway. Hand applying is slower, that's all. If the boarding is bad, then you may need to finish some joints by hand to feather them out wider than the 12" box finish. The internal finishing equipment is what is going to save you the most time too.
I would have thought that a course would cover most of it.
I'll let you know when i've got a bit more on. Where are you?

tone you ever stuck youre internals with unibond

No mate. If the job is only small, or remedial work like pipe casings, i'll use Wet and Stick self adhesive paper tape, but fill the screw holes and any gaps first or you get a hollow under it. I prefer to bed the paper tapes properly with cement or sometimes easifill.

see if i was on site as a taper by the time youve read this post ill still be staring at the pearson who explained that to me ???......................... ;D

did a skimming job in victoria last summer spec was paper tape now when skimming with paper tape you only get two hits in a day cause it takes so long so what we did was spend a day sticking the tape up in two flats with unibond worked a treat and the lab could then go ahead sticking the tapes up bonay da douche
