Just been to a site to make sure its secure as the owner is away, I noticed the rendering was rough as a bears arse, the plasterer owed money to the house owner and agreed to work to pay it off, sadly he is an alcoholic and his work, which once was great is now terrible, I have worked with a few spreads that I think need to hang up their tools due to eyesight etc, I just run out of work for them.If you have a relative who needs parking up ,how would you do it.. Tough one as most work for the much needed funds to eat and pay bills. Not every plasterer has anything to fall back on..

Very hard when they are alcoholic. I have met plenty in the 70,s and 80,s, not so many these days.

I have 2 spreads work for me and they live from pay packet to pay packet. Always skint and their money goes on beer and fags. One binges at weekend and is skint all week but the other begs for a days wages on the excuse of no gas in the meter etc. He never ever turns up the next day if you advance a days pay and this has been going on every week for 11 years! We all accept he can only do a 4 day week and we hate him for it. He is an arse hole, a council estate loser. But when he is here he works well. And before anyone says don,t advace him anything well tried that. he turns up at my door drunk and aggressive. We had argued, I have sacked him several times if he hasn,t already told me shove my job and the neighbours have been at the windows watching in disgust. No sod the t1*t, I give him his days wages on demand for a quiet life, its a bargain.

What a sad way to live. relying on booze and fags to keep your sanity. Booze killed his dad and brother but it hasn,t stopped him. It will do eventually and I won,t be at his funeral.

Can't beat a bit of comradery at work. Did you give him a Crimbo bonus?

No, not a chance! He expects one and I have given them in the past but all 3 of us have grievances and he is me and the other spreads grievance. He wants more money and we have told him when he can do a regular 5 day week and stop screwing up every job being finished on schedule then he can have what he wants when he gives us what we want. It gets him mad but he knows he cannot deliver.

He bullies the other spread and lab, their **** scared of him. The sooner I get out of this game the sooner he will end up either on the streets or in the nick for growing dope. Both my spreads started as my labs and progressed. before me they had never worked before.

They are proud to be on paye though. They are the only ones in their family who has a job. They dont like having to sign on anymore.

I worked with lots of alcoholics in the 80,s. Guys who had black coffee so that they could put whiskey in it,guys who hid cans and bottles all over the site, whiskey bottles in the big tonne bags..One guy used to have two cans of special under his bed so that he could get up in the morning, he went to breakfast alone at eleven(off licence times" back then

On and off for 11 years. Long story why and cant be bothered to be reminded why.

I apologise if anyone on here was brought up on a Council Estate. I was and lived on 1 up to getting married at 22. Not all council estate tenants are bad, it is as usual the minority that gives certain estates a bad name. Well this tosser belonged to that minority. He has disassociated himself from most of his past friends but his drinking spoils it. He now lives in a flat away from his old estate and is lonely. Drink is his only friend.

you have got more patience than me rigsby, personally i would have got rid of him years ago i just could not have put up with that behavior

Are you spying on me Mr. Rigsby :RpS_sneaky:

It's sad when they get like that, mate knew a joiner that drunk a bottle of whisky a day, his drinking got worse and ended up alone in a flat sat in a piss soaked chair drinking himself to death. He did die in the end and the church was packed at his funeral. All over a woman I believe (probably as I've known several people comit suicide over failed relationships).

Not at all ageism, horses for courses in all plastering, but plastering is so easy to find fault with, its a tough game with no sentiment. If you are good enough, then age has no place in this..

Indeed, every trade says 'the plasterers will get over it' when they make a right shoite job the brush-hands pull you to bits expecting you to make everything perfect and everyone leaves their crap for you to sweep up.

Yeah and happy christmas, at least no one has asked me if I'm getting plastered this xmas :RpS_laugh:

Yes, job is skim only , but they check it with rules and levels and squares. I often say where was your level when it was been built, when the stud went up, when it was been boarded?

1. Rough
2. Rougher
3. Roughest

My old man used to say to builders "I may be slow but I'm rough". I so enjoyed the look on their faces that I've adopted it.
