Eyup Lads,

Customer is having a new chimneybreast built in an upstairs bedroom above the dinning room and obviously continued through loft etc.

Not sure if fire is to be a gas fire flu etc or a wood/coal burner will be viewing when builder has bricked up in a couple of weeks.

Been told the breast will be built with thermolite blocks and was just wondering if there is a specific backing coat that i will need to use or if hardwall will be ok?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Felas

Eyup Owls,

Is that whats needed pal? If so is there a specific ratio you would recomend for each coat etc?

if theres any chance of extreme ie heat from a stove etc that is what id use as apposed to a gypsum backing.maybe with some fibres in.
6.1.1 plastering sand cement hydrated lime.

Thanks Owls Appreciated,

To be honest ive only knocked up my own Sand & Cement a couple of times when following damp proof companys etc.

Though not cost effective for convenience i now generaly buy bags of BG Dri-Coat or Limelite Renovating Plaster as im at least happy that way with ratio consistencys etc.

May seem a daft question but cost aside could Dri-Coat be used i know its designed for repeling moisture aposed to heat so appreciate it sounds a bit blonde! Just wondered with it being sand and cement and i think theres some lime in it etc?

As said depends on the fire being used.If your using Hardwall, just dampen down the thermalites, cos they suck better than a Essex Girl on a Saturday night.

HeHe...Thanks KebabKing now theres a thought mmmm :flapper:

So im asuming then that if a standard gas fire flu then ok with Hardwall if a coal burner etc then Sand & Cement etc?

Cheers Zombie
