reat lads, went to price a job the other day & as soon as i got through the door the fella was on the counter attack telling me he's a general builder & he does plastering but just doesn't have the time, another spread recently did work at the house and did it for a realy good price & was well impressed with his work & i know what all the going rates are for spreads & he was good with me. there's 17m2 & in the artex ceiling & 43m2 in the walls. it's a straight forward reskim. i said 450 quid. he said i was taking the piss!! was i steap? cheers

well i charged £200 cash to supply and set a 15m2 artex ceiling today ..... so that's 250 left for the walls. id day that price is ok .....

A days work on ur own if its just skimming 5-6 bags of thistle and a drop of PVA.yes a touch expensive mate.£250 - £300 it of been urs !!!

cheers for moving the post. cheers rick,i also said i'd supply the planks & trestles with the walls being 9ft high. i think he was expecting me to do the whole room for about 250.

in my dreams i'd get that done in a day!!!!! i would of gone down the evening b4 & wba the ceiling & give the walls pva priming but even still i'd never get that done in a day.

Long day Rich 8- 10 hrs only 60 M mate.on a reskim and artex too the plaster will be pulling in quick 1 .30 hr sets ,id do it mate.Dependent on the shapes sizes etc obviously. But easily achievable for a PLASTER !!

450 is just about spot on, anyone doing it for anything less is a mug we run businesses not Charity's

No wba first mistake!!!
you got a good key with the textured coating so why create one with wba.....b*ll***s to that not required son.
cut beads to size
pissy coat of pva to slow suction!!not to adhere!! first coat ceiling

then put up beeads with remaining gear.

second coatt ceiling trowel to polish
then big mix.... large wall +smaller wall and reveals done, when you got them walls square put another wall on.
then jump back and polish other 2 walls.
4-5 hrs gone by.so luch time.
leaving 1 wall and maybe couple reveals and clear up.
60 m2 done !!!!!

i charge £520 to overboard and skim a 3x3 bedroom at the moment and iv done 2 this week. not harsh at all

and i dont use WBA for a key i use to it prep walls the day b4 so i walk in and just skim. and skimmin mate it all sounds good when you lay it out like that but it never goes like that when u need it 2..

Its half a days work unloading the van, dust sheets, scrape ceiling, pva ..... mixing up ................ cleaning up and hoovering. No way I would want to do it in a day. Id charge £450 and sleep at night.

you robbing b*****d lol

Oasis...i know spreads and sparkys plumbers etc that havent had a phone call for a quote in the last 2-3 weeks.
Im ok for work as many are.but some guys are really struggling.if you advertise and invest you do best !!make no mistake .
Oasis you have got it right ur approach to business seems a good stategy ,but if work starts to slow and you got commitments to advertising etc its so easy to lose it all mate it really is,ive been there.

Look at poor old bigsegs for example, only six -9 month ago he was struggling like f uc k for work trying out this fleximant stuff etc anything new to give him the edge. Now hes a man that can turn his hand to anything most trades etc etc and he couldnt get no work.
If all you can do is plaster and you got work your lucky mate very lucky!!

I agree Pug its a fair price. But if needs must and all that,id rather do a days graft and earn £250 than be sitting around listening to the wife winging all fu c k i n g day long that in not helping her writing christmas cards.

I send christams cards to all my customers every year and a bottle of plonk to my better ones, with a business card in it obviously!!!!
But the printers are busy and i ll be fu c k ed if im writing them out.
Nice touch that guys have got work from it in the past years.

I'd need to take out a small bank loan to send all my customers cards never mind the plonk! f**k that.

couldnt get that money up ere they would laugh you down the street lucky to 300 i recon £100 for the lid and 200 for the walls I would expect some stick round our way if you walked out of some ones house after 1 days work with 450 notes but if you can get it go for it pal. wish I could

i reckon 3 - 350 is ok...
450 is a good price and other days youll get it, some days you wont...

problem here is the blokes had some experience of the trade and may well have had some up and coming or struggling for work spreads go and knock him a couple of rooms out on the cheap having been promised lots an lots of work (cos the blokes a builder innit) which never materalises unless he wants another cheap job doing.. etc etc rant rant...

so maybe ask him what he thinks is a reasonable price seeing as he's in the trade and possibly what happened the the last bloke who did it at that price, then tell him youll start doing them at his silly price when your on your fourth job for him...

promises are just words...

and everyones a 'builder' these days. me included.. ;D

Well on Thursday i skimmed 2 rooms both 12m2 ceilings & 2.4m high Walls.
Both had swirl artex ceilings & bark effect artex on Walls, both rooms full of furniture carpets etc, got there at 8am finished both rooms complete by 6:30pm
I charged £180 labour as they supplied the materials.

Srape 2nd room ceiling & Walls by 2pm
Quick roller with pva then mix up 3 bags lay 1st coat on ceiling & Walls stick beads into 1st coat by 3:45 mix bag & half to 2nd coat room all trowelled up by 6pm throw everything in van by 6:30pm customer said they'd Hoover up £180 cash in pocket.
Then next week they want 3 bedrooms doing in the same way skim over artex ceilings & Walls, beds in the way carpets etc. I said I'd do it in a day just have to work till 10pm & charge them £225 cash. you laid it all on in one go?

theres two things wrong with that..

1 - I would put a lot of money on that the quality of the work isnt top notch, no way if your laying such a large area on.

2 - why you bother? its people like you who drive the prices down and means when us normal spreads try to find work the customers expect us to be doing the same, a room a day, for peanuts.

Hi normal spread

1 - my quality is topper notch than most, plus they've got loads of pictures going back up so most the Walls won't be seen. ;)

2 - it was 2 rooms a day for peanuts not 1!

3 - I think I'm too expensive so I'm dropping my prices after Xmas ;D
