hey all!
got a job next week where i got to plaster over artex ceiling. Normally i would use some bonding coat to fill out any hollows etc.. then skim over with multi finish. i bumped into a mate of mine who is also a plasterer, and we started talking about jobs, and he suggested using thistle universal one coat on the artex instead of the bonding and multi finish. However iv never used this one coat stuff before and just wondered if any of you guys have, and if so whats your opinion about it??
Hope i made sense of what im trying to say.

Cheers!

its a dead easy to use mate, just lay it on (thicker than skim) when its picking up flatten a little, then sponge it and trowel it as normal.

naz sorry to disagree.......but........u ever laid it on a ceiling?......sorry to sound rude... u should lay universal one coat in 2 coats.....one coat means its a backing and top coat plaster not one coat application....but when u use it do 2 coats 1 straight after the other ..feather edge it flat wait a while then sponge float it to bring fat to top them trowel out......there is a nack to getting a good finish with the stuff... and as i said earlier if youve not used it before and u try doing a ceiling with it....i'll putt money that youll have a mare, even if your bruce lee im fecking fast plasterer......but do practice with the stuff ..i love it ...fantastic for high suction backgrounds and backing plaster for patchwork and chases..its like the swiss army tool of plastering good luck fella

Yep just pva and multi is all you need. I've used loads of one-coat over the years on all sorts of backgrounds.
I've found it's the best plaster for patching, esp when there is a variation of backgrounds/suction/thicknesses,but I wouldn't fancy using it for skimmin over pva/artex.

do you want to wait for the first coat to pick up before going over with the second phippsy?, is the first coat thicker like a backing coat?

if im using it to lay on high suction moody render say build out 4 to 5 mill i lay near enough same amount each time ....try and be smooth with it on second..i dont wait between coats straight on one after the other..
