This might sound weird to most of the seasoned spreads on the forum but here goes.
I have been skimming for over 20 years on a strict diet of carlite finish as this was until recently
the only finish plaster widely available in n. ireland.
To those who have not used it carlite takes 3 hours to set and therefore 3 gauge's in a normal day is
not possible ::) My local b&q store stocks only thistle multi and I decided to try it a few weeks ago
and was pleasantly surprised at the 1.5 hour setting time and how easy it is to close in and smooth
of. It is an absolute dream on reskims and £2 per bag cheaper than carlite.
I feel like a born again spread and am really starting to enjoy my job again ;D
Just thought I would share this with everyone.

Weve not had carlite finish for years or carlite plaster finish as it was called before it stopped. Lovely stuff to use on backing plaster, you had to be a total knob if you couldnt get a good finish on it

I think thistle is easier to work with and very little water needed on troweling up.

your right merlin it was only discontinued a few years ago it was maily speced for skimming over backing such as browning but multi was the all in one so it retired, i liked it because you could fire on almighty sized gauges. it was the smoothest of the three also with multi second and board third.
