did a job for a builder today got there and he wanted me to skim a block wall, no backing just skim right onto the block ... I thought fook it and carried on..... to my amazement it came out perfect lol

can only assume its gonna shrink and craze like f'ck but long as you got paid happy days.. :RpS_laugh: what blocks were they?

rule one of working for a bulder, there all tight buggers.
thing is though mate, that IS the whole point of being a 'builder'...

all a 'builder' is these days is a salesman with experience in some trade or another, more opften than not a brickie, sometimes even none at all and all they do is factor other trades in for the cheapest quote and pump the job out as 'top spec, high quality, fully trained and insured blah blah blah' and 9 times out of ten all you get for your money is a worse job than you would have got if youd paid half the price and organised the individual trades yourself...
if I ever factor other trades in a usually just let em go and spec and quote the job themselves on the basis that they do the same for me on their jobs...

plumbers and sparks usually need a plasterer at some point and theyll point their customers at you for bigger areas / jobs, same goes for plastering, your usually first in behind the spark and half the time youre quoting before any work starts so if you can offer the full package they like it, whether youre running the job or just saving them the uncertainty of sourcing tradesmen they have absolutely no idea about....

being a 'builder' is doing just that, people get to know you as 'my builder', its just whether you decide to try and take other trades for a c'nt or not....

both methods work, in fact the tight arse builder is usually the one driving round in a brand new van/range rover/ 4x4 wheras the 'concientious objector to exploiting other tradespeople' is usually the guy with the sh'tty little van with a bitter attitude...

Yer and if s**t it's the fan then it's the rough plasterer who did the job.
depends who's payin the bill mate, as far as the punter is concerned the plasterer comes recommended or on the builders books, and its the builder thats got to sort it... best off not tellin em your name just in case, remain anonymous like....

It gets what it gets .it's what the builder wanted.
what else can you do? its either that or get one on and walk off site, possibly kissing goodbye to a load more future work, end of the day, its his decision cos he's got the whole picture... your just a tool he's using to get the job done...
if it goes tits up youve always got that 'told you so' look to enjoy when you see him next... :RpS_laugh:

yep i know how it works chris.
i deal with plenty of builders/developers and most ive found are fairly clueless and badly organised.

Im getting red hot at skimming over wallpaper thats supposed to be all off before i turn up used to take me hours to get it off not anymore...f**Kem all im on a budget to!

Also getting the knack of skimming over doors of wooden serving hatches bits of ply and owt else that gets in my way! i just cover em in scrim staple down neat unibond and happy days!
