iv just got a call to go and skim over artex 12m2 in a hall long and pain in the ass 4th floor in a tower block hot as (french word) so it will be going off quick i have the go and price it monday how much shood i go in at ???
not done a lot of tower blocks as its houseing office all the subs i talk to say it a pig of a job you all say muiltl but some say board finish over artex so wich is it lads board or muilti

best you choose your doing it.sure youve worked over artex before,so why ask if what you have used works on all the rest.or is nobody biting.

Assuming its 6x2 if its a hallway, piece of cake chief - I've never had any probs with multi over artex - Give it a good scrape, 2 coats of PVA, both coats from same mix as its such a small area, you'll be home for lunch - Go in at £150, I would

i allways go for the multi/board finish mix with a bit of casting plaster thrown in, spreads beautifully 8)

wtf jeda screw you m8te do one yes i have spred over artex thanks but its a tower block so it will go off quick i use muilti all the time but some of the lads in here say to use board finish so what is your problem so whats the best muilti or board finish ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? all my work gets two coats of pva and two coats of plaster im a spred not a chancer

why would you use board finish? multi for me never had a problem, 12m2 should be piece of cake m8. Just keep it wet if its goin off to quick...use a spray bottle...or if you don't think you can keep up get some help and price in the labour. If its over axtex...best to screw the boards in before you skim if ceiling in bad way cracks etc overboard then skim. Good luck ;)

M/f mate.
Board finnish is designed for low suction boards. Not ultra highly absorbant asbestos coated artex!!!!!
If youre ever in doubt with ceilings just overboard it.
if its four storeys high is it a concrete ceiling (tower blocks usually have concrete ceilings )????????????? If iti is,dont overboard and phone a plasterer.

steady floor to ball, you spelling improved.think you got confused chancer you are spread you most deffinetly aint.in any way shape or form.tower block maybe towering inferno no.so as a spread of countless years your worrying about a tiny ceiling going of to fast, over 2 coats pva.then you need F*****g.

jeda do one the last tower block i was working on was 6th floor going off like s**t...........................................
but i got the job start thursday 12m2 hall way price was £100+muilti he has got 50m2 lounge with a open plan kitchen all in total kitchen+lounge is 50m2 so the lab is coming on the job iv got the two bedroom ceilings there 20m2 each

I try never to scim over artex as the prep work puts my price over joe pole who will just go in and skim. artex is an air dry product and becomes soft from pva and wet plaster and can (not always) lose its key as the plaster setts on top it traps a moist artex that can move or separate. seen fellers trowel it up and have big pieces of their new cieling drag off or peel or even when your out the door a painters sticky roller pull of huge strips of the plaster, I always either use thisle bond it (green) or overboard where you can. using screws never nails. if you need the job then go for joe pole method and in-out mate

the reason your finding artex peeling off is because it wasnt prepped correctly before the artex went up there..
thats why it comes off when it gets wet.. no amount of gypbond will help you in this instance, either remove the lot or overboard it...
if however when you run the scraper over it it's solid youll be fine.. suction control from this point on being a matter of experience, it depends on what the ceiling is painted with..
I've also seen new fresh plaster de-bond and come away from the ceiling... distemper being the reason...
Ive had artex come away behind the plaster as Im trowelling up and this is due to the bond of the artex, not the prep work, like i said, if its loose, have it off or overboard....

Artex peeling of is nothing to do with the prep before artexing the reason is simply that artex is water soluble. I set a whole house over artex some years ago, made sure the artex was well sealed before setting and all went well. Two years later I got a call from the owner, poor chap had had the whole top floor flooded, all the plaster I had put up was on the floor still stuck perfectly to the pattern side of the artex. The side of the artex that had been in contact with the ceiling was still soft to the touch where the water had dissolved it.

i feel a difference of opinion coming on ;D
you say your plastering went well.. all good...
flooding the place.. different matter, im surprised the plasterboard wasnt on the floor let alone the artex..
;D

however before i start a stampede.. ;D
i agree with what youre sayin as in artex being water soluble etc...
its just that if its stuck on well, i.e. prep done correctly, then plastering over it doesnt normally cause problems..
badly applied artex thats gone onto dry boards or even old plaster will be on the floor before you can trowel up...
what was it someone said a while back?

'artex will change its name to carpet'... ;D

I don't think anything I did while plastering the place could have caused the place to flood two years later!!! I used to do quite a bit of artexing years ago and if I had worked really late I didn't bother cleaning the tools that night I just washed them in a bowel of warm water either the next day or even longer after if the carp were in a catchable mood. Apart from joint and nail head prep you don't have to do any other prep to artex onto plasterboard, only needing to use sealer if you weren't quick enough to keep a wet edge.
