i have been told when putting on second coat spread it one way and dont go back over what you have put on isthis true ???

for me I put the second coat on the same thikness of mix as the first coat,i put it on nice and flat with very few lines etc then i dont have to mess about flattening just leave as in last post to firm up before first wet trowel.

I'm not sure if I quite get what you mean Daz but hear goes. When putting on either first or second coat my trowel is going up and down spreading the finish to the correct thickness and the trowel is swept into what has just been put on, both to the side and above so yes I do go back over what has already been put on.
Not sure if that helps, also when laying on the second coat I use just over half the amount used to put on the first coat

i think i know what you mean and you have been told right , lay it on and move along , personal methods vary , left and righthanded plasterers move in different directions but i tend to lay it on in arch's from right to left along a wall starting from the top then bottom.
