Ow Doo fellas

New to forum and have a favour to ask. I apologise if this has been covered.

In the middle of refurb on a bungalow with the front smooth rendered and painted.
New frames been fitted so had to hack off the render round old frames which have now been made good. The existing render is pretty scruffy looking so was looking to Tyrolene it (using culurmix).

Plasterer mate of mine said to brush on a sand/cement mix to provide a key for the Tyrolene straight on to the paint.

Is this the way forward??
Should I use some PVA before the sand/cement?
Also have a few hairline cracks in the render is there a way you can seal these with something or will Tyrolene cover it.

Only done it once before years ago but was on new blockwork.

Chers in advance

Stan

I would imagine your bond would only be as good as the paint bond, which Doesn't sound to good as you've described, I would be inclined to take the paint off before anything else. Welcome by the way

Tyrolean will cover the cracks.

Dont use PVA, i would coat the paint with microgobetis (bonding agent).

Scrape loose off re prime and top with acrylic, quick fix may last a year may last ten depends on the state off your exist render, other option scrape down, high polymer render base n mesh , mushroom pins then top with acrylic

Budgets dictate a good job and bad job , When going over paint we always leave ourselves open to " Do YOu know that job you did well it;s shelling off".

Cheers for replys.

Had a mess around with a wire cup brush on my 9 inch grinder to see if i could remove the paint for a decent base.

Wire brush would not shift it just polished the surface so its safe to say its pretty well adehered to render.

What do you mean by use Acrylic??

Mate said you need the sand cement slurry so Cullamix dries enough between coats to look right.

Any further thoughts

If you have cup brushed all the paint then i would use a primer as above then top with an acrylic thin coat render such as Marmorit conni s , Parex DPR etc and use their corresponding primer there are many other products of a similar nature which may be more readily available such as Jub, weber etc, bear in min your looking at budget options here though, as per you idea with the slurry and cullamix, but i think iy would be a better looking job with the acrylics, Just my opinion

Cheers for input

The paint has not moved even after wire brushing so just looking for a good fix for cullamix.

Budgets tight now so if i go with slurry should i pva the paint first before slurry or just wack it straight on.

What ration for slurry - 50/50?

Thanks fellas

Dont use PVA. Just knocked up ya SBR slurry 1:1 S&C and 1:1 SBR & water and brush it on
