Tyrolean Over Newly Rendered Wall

I have recently rendered a wall in my front garden. It was a first attempt and unfortunately didn't work out too well. Used 5:1 mix with hydraterd lime but I guess the mix was too wet or application was too thin as small cracks appeared in the finish as it dried out overnight. The render is sound - doesn't sound hollow/blown. To save hacking it off and starting again I was thinking about a sand and cement tyrolean coat. Is it alright to apply this on a top coat (unpainted) or does it have to go on a scratch coat? A couple of members have mentioned PVA or PVA with cement slurry first. Any suggestions?

you could go either way. as long as you get suction right. you could also add another render coat with mesh...

Just fire it straight over the top, if you are using coloured Tyrolean brush a watered down coat over the render to give it some colour so the sand and cement doesn’t show through
