I have heard of some strange solutions to various building problems over the years, the most comical involve the use of expanding foam filler to repair lath and plaster walls - or even to build walls, or the building of a bakery that ran out of blocks as they got to the top - and finished the walls off with stale loaves of bread. At work today I found a piece of foam insulation being used as nothing less than a lintel over a fireplace. I have no idea how the wall above the fire is still in one piece as the lintel was supporting part of a cob wall and concrete blocks. I will no doubt get to replace the insulating lintel with one made of firmer stuff
