This is a review for anyone thinking of using uni.
I was a fan of the 1st gen uni finish that got slated so bad and had the chance to use te new stuff on job.
Firstly it's for the domestic and DIY market.
Secondly it's not magic stuff it does have limitations.
So although it is expensive I thought I'd try it out.
I had some hallways walls over artex and a kitchen with paint/plasterboard and sections where I'd filled chases and where old tiles were.
I find it does hang quite a bit.
Over artex.
I find it is very good to use if you have some ceilings or walls with a pattern that isn't to deep.
First coat should be quite thick and I would lay on more than if I used multi as it does tend to hang around unless it's the artex that seems to be high suction.
I leave it to set quite a bit before I then second coat.
This is due to the way it works.
The second coat will always wet the first one back up and if you try to do it to quick you will find the pattern of the artex come through and then hangs even longer.
Again after flattening the second leave it for a while.
Then finish as normal with even less water than normal and it trowels up a dream.
Painted surfaces.
This is quite a easy straight forward way. Same as multi and finishes nicely. Again you can lay on a bit more I find due to the second coat keeping it a little longer from drying.
Hard wall/bonding.
I went over this the day after I'd put the backing coat on.
It pulled in at first quite quick like multi but then the 2nd coat again helped to bring it back.
Troweled up lovely.
I didn't get no cracking or crazing from this.
I would imagine it to be different if I'd left the hard walls for a few days to fully dry.
This is my thoughts on it and is to help anyone thinking of using it.
I know not everyone is a fan but it's here to help/guide people if they want to try it.
I would not advise using it on very high suction surfaces like old bare plaster or very dry lime finish. I'd stick to multi.
Any thing else I find its been good.
The price will stop me from using it all the time but I'll most likely use it on artex ceilings and walls and any Matt paint surfaces.
