This is a review for anyone thinking of using uni.

I was a fan of the 1st gen uni finish that got slated so bad and had the chance to use te new stuff on job.

Firstly it's for the domestic and DIY market.
Secondly it's not magic stuff it does have limitations.

So although it is expensive I thought I'd try it out.

I had some hallways walls over artex and a kitchen with paint/plasterboard and sections where I'd filled chases and where old tiles were.

I find it does hang quite a bit.

Over artex.
I find it is very good to use if you have some ceilings or walls with a pattern that isn't to deep.
First coat should be quite thick and I would lay on more than if I used multi as it does tend to hang around unless it's the artex that seems to be high suction.
I leave it to set quite a bit before I then second coat.
This is due to the way it works.
The second coat will always wet the first one back up and if you try to do it to quick you will find the pattern of the artex come through and then hangs even longer.
Again after flattening the second leave it for a while.
Then finish as normal with even less water than normal and it trowels up a dream.

Painted surfaces.
This is quite a easy straight forward way. Same as multi and finishes nicely. Again you can lay on a bit more I find due to the second coat keeping it a little longer from drying.

Hard wall/bonding.
I went over this the day after I'd put the backing coat on.
It pulled in at first quite quick like multi but then the 2nd coat again helped to bring it back.
Troweled up lovely.
I didn't get no cracking or crazing from this.
I would imagine it to be different if I'd left the hard walls for a few days to fully dry.

This is my thoughts on it and is to help anyone thinking of using it.
I know not everyone is a fan but it's here to help/guide people if they want to try it.

I would not advise using it on very high suction surfaces like old bare plaster or very dry lime finish. I'd stick to multi.
Any thing else I find its been good.

The price will stop me from using it all the time but I'll most likely use it on artex ceilings and walls and any Matt paint surfaces.

Cheers Danny I've also just used some prototype quick set bonding after BG seen a post I did about waiting ages.
Nice bit a kit that.
Hopefully they will make me a mascot!
Glad u have given it a shot..saves me trying to convince the world it's ok...here is some pictures from today

Sounds like you've really studied those pictures to try and find a fault of some sort?!
Why do so many do this?

Not a fault with his work....just my opinion on things in the room, I usually let the customer know about surface mounted boxes, fire surrounds etc, most don't have a clue until you tell them that doing it afterwards is going to f**k up their lovely new walls.

So no PVA? Must of sucked the sh*t out of it...that's old lime plaster? How many bags of UNI to do that room?
Multi used on ceiling it's was boarded,2.5 unifinish on walls like the other dude said trick with unifinish is get first coat on thick suction sorts itself at the end of the set no matter what u go over..fire place mixed, put on ,laid in,flattened 2 times and a nela cross in 1hr 15mins drys fast on bare plaster as with multi

No problem..i did advise some people have not got the funds to do as u suggested though

I think in time the price will come down :D
It's got to...first thing plasterers say when talk about it is at wickes and b and q '£11 a bag forget it'.sig merchants done me a pallet at £7.80 a bag it's still to much...IMOIMO

It'll take a long time to catch on if it ever does. Most are sitting tight waiting for failure stories of it coming down on an artex ceiling.

I have said this before but going to again.Since January 2014 I have skimmed over 100 different surfaces e.g ages of houses, different artex, paints, backing coats and never at anytime has unifinish 2 failed on adhesion to the surface. When it was then released to general sale of public the one thing that bg has to be given credit for is that they truely resolved adhesion issue.People might struggle to adapt to using unifinish 2 because of different rates of the material drying than they r used to with pva and multi but to me that is all part of plastering, every day is a school day,if u get ya head around it unifinish actually gives a better finish than multi.

I had little white bits in my multi finish today and in my board finish last week so i think bg are up to something. The board finish went for miles but hung for ages too and left blisters in places where i may have layed on second coat too early.
