Danny

what's the threshold now? is it not about 70 grand?? It rules me out anyway on my paltry wages ;D

You have to be vat registered if you earn over 60 grand

It's not to do with how much you earn it's what your turnover is, so this would include materials and wages of your labourer and anyone else you have work for you.

one scenario is that a vat registered soletrader is always going to be 20 odd percent more expensive unless he works for cash of the record so it will encourage illegal activity or put small business out of business.

Nice one cameron

just for the record its not what you EARN or if your wages are 'paltry' its what you turnover this is a very different thing

It won't affect you if you do shed loads of cheap sub standard work to which you're not qualified to do in the first place and plan to leave the country before paying back into the country, hence being able to work at the same wage as someone working in a warehouse.

Meow

Im Vat registered and im expecting all the private work to dry up for me... which i dont mind at all as i cant be bothered with winging customers who want the work done for nothing anyway... big outfits are registered and claim it all back anyway... same as i do ;)
