Just wondering whether to have van sign written.

Would like to know if it generates work and interest, I'm trying to get a little more domestic work next year after iv improved my website.

I'm not too keen on magnetics as I have heard they can come off, possibly looking at a full sheet with info on rather then individual lettering.

Is it worth getting an 0800 number to go on there and does signage effect you if you drop into subbing to large contractors.

Cheers in advance lads, Mac

We've got magnetics Mac and they don't come off so don't let that put you off.
Our website generates work but I can't think of one inquiry coming from the signs to be honest.

well over the year's i found it more of a pain in the rectum ,as not many peeps think oh yes theres a plasterer ,they have them as a package with a builder!!,lets face it plastering is just one aspect of a greater job usually, then as you say if you need to sub to peeps they find it irritating that you are in -affect advertising on there job !!and worry that there customer will go directly to you instead of to them, so they will overlook you for a spread who has no advertising IMO ,. i have none on my van for this reason mainly, and remember it gives a prospective thievish a good idea of what power tools my be in your van!!,and if you want to be in cognate then its a bit of a give- way ent it lol.............

Really andy, just doing a bit of research and it seems to be split.

That's the van btw, was thinking of wrapping it and then running it into the ground

I can only go by my own experience mate. I got two fair size mag signs on each side and a couple of small ones on the back and they haven't moved at all even when doing eighty plus down the A12 (obviously on the way home). If I only had a smallish budget to spend on advertising I'd make sure the website was right and then see if there's anything left over for the van signs.

I'm sure these signs cost more than our website, crazy as it seems.

Cheers andy.

Anyone used and 0800 number, something like £5 setup and £5 per month. You get so many minute with it and have it diverted to your mob, thought it might be more attractive to the domestics, and easier to remember.

Thanks, mac

for the 2 sides front and back mine cost £140-£150.i cant remember.

had a few enquiries about jobs through the sign writing. but i think it does more than that. people start to recognise you, see your van around. notice youve got a website etc. if they see you around for a few months then when they do need a plasterer they know youre not going anywhere

I would agree with that line of thought Steve and find that wearing my logo-ed polo shirts when out and about (pub mainly) does help with people knowing who you are and what you do.

i never had my van signed ,up to about 2 years ago , dont know if it works or not but had a few jobs from the neigbourhood cause they never knew what i did so at least its payed for itself

then you have to fit it yourself. and if anything happens im betting 'its down to the way it was fitted'

i had my transit written and i had loadsa work off of it like steve said people get to know your van and your name and number and theres an element of trust then as they have seen you about alot, havent got the truck done though dnt know if i can be arsed i should do really as i have very very little in the way of advertisement out there but i seem to be ticking over

with ply board with 'JR PLASTERING, DRIVEWAY, LUMBERJACK, LUXURY MATTRESS', SPECIALISTS 0800 3049503 on the back?

Ive been quite pleased with how many other jobs ive picked up in a street where we've been working just from the sign writting and its easily paid for itsell and then some.

actually it has a snug top to cover the top and nothing wrote on it except for the occasional spunking dick the lads on site draw in the dirt

Having your van sign written is good for brand recognition, you may get some enquiries from it to, we have had a few people who want plastering work carried out in Bristol approach us.

We also have an 0800 number, it can become quite expensive if you divert to mobile, especially if you get lots of calls, but certainly seems to increase enquiries and allows you to advertise in lots of different areas without being restricted by the area code, for example we get calls from people who need a plasterer in Bath, Weston, Taunton and Bristol.

Once your van is sign written, it becomes free advertising. I get loads from mine, have people knock the door if its on the drive, and approach me when working, if theres nothing on there they don't know what you do. Id avoid 0800 numbers.

does your van say free living room ceiling repair if i put my foot through it thanks to a wanky plumber? :RpS_sneaky:

Got ours signed up, has paid for itself in work generated plus it looks a bit more professional than a rusty white van.

Had one customer ring us up while in their car behind us in traffic. :RpS_thumbup:

Hi Mac

I view 0800 numbers as a national business...... when looking at domestic work, you want to show your local area code for a number - then they know you are local (ish)

Good Luck mate!

I have to agree with sign writing and having a normal land line number are both good things to have on your van.

I've had jobs from people coming up to the van in Wickes etc. after seeing the signage.

I had an 0800 a few years ago diverted to mobile but didn't see any benefits from it.
My friends/colleagues and family did tho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had mine done, well, done it myself on signbuilder.co.uk.£106 for two sides, bit of a pain to get on cos it was so cold that day but well happy with it ..
Only had it on six weeks and had a few inquiries already, gotta put yourself out there...
