av been thinkin about gettin myself a corsa van just wonderin wether itll be bigg enough wat do yous think

not a chance you will need atleast a vauxhall combo, berlingo or partner even then after a while they are not big eough

they are ok but not really tall enough in the back, if all your doing is site work you will be fine but if its domestic then you will need as much space as you can.

id say that if your lookin for a vehicle purely for work get a big one, on older vans for the same year and milage you can have a transit for the same price as an escort..
that said, as long as youre not lookin to fit plasterboard, beads and coving in the back, any old van will fit your tools and a few bags in..
just remember though that you need 2.4m beads nearly every job...
maybe a minimum loading size would be 1800x900 in the back for a 6x3 board and you can fit the beads through into the cab...
its more about length with plastering than height...
but a lwb transit will fit 8x4 sheets, a ton bag of sand, a mixer and all your tools plus seat 3, on an x plate for around 1500 quid half decent...
all depends what you wanna do, im runnin a transit at the mo but im thinkin of downgradin to an escort size and just take overskims cos im only doin em at weekend and nights...i.e. not full time...

it costs to get your boards delivered what about dust sheets hoover there is alot of things you need other than a trowel and hop up.

even for 5 boards, they wouldnt make any money if they did that, or they add the money on to the price of the board

You dont really want to be relying on the delivery of your boards all the time. Ive worked for builders that insist on buying materials, makes no sense as its still the same price, and they have had them delivered. You get promised the first drop and you end up waiting around all morning for the delivery. All you can do then is unload the lot then go home cos you carnt be arsed to start.
Ive got a mate who uses a vauxhall combo and he gets his boards in ok. Its quite high for a small van so he can get his mixer in too.
I saw a plasterer not so long ago with an astra van at my local wickes. The poor bloke had to cut his boards in half cos he couldnt get them in. I couldnt be doing with the hassle.

Hoover? You're spoiling 'em mate. You'll be telling us next you wipe the skim off the skirting board and window frames next ;) ;D

I'm running an SWB Transit on an S plate - gave 1500 for it 18 months ago and touch wood, only changed the water pump in all that time - Its nice to be able to pop out to the local builders merchants should I ever be a board or two short - 8 x 4s fit like a glove, just slide in (no bulkhead) with about an inch to spare when the rear doors are shut

no, but anymore than 2 or 3 boards on a roof rack is pushin it... i dont like using a roof rack for anything other than ladders or lengths of timber... sheet material on a roof at speed can be hairy...
nothin to stop you gettin boards delivered..
any amount of boards and you would anyway...
its just that to overboard a ceiling you need anything from 4 to 10 boards, and personally i wouldnt wanna be shoving em on the roof, and its a small amount to justify a delivery cost, but if you can make it pay any other way, just get em delivered with the plaster, pva, scrim etc, order over the phone and have a lie in ;D
coving, up to 2/3 packs is usually ok on a roof, well secured...
but what if its p'ssing down....

stick some tarp on top of them :P
well, i suppose with superpowers you could always ask it to stop raining just whilst you load the rack, get the tarp on and strap everything down... :P
seriously though mate, if your serious about your vehicle and plastering as a full time business, buy a bigger van...

im always thinking of getting a bigger van but i always remember what a fella told me when i was just starting out "it dosnt matter what size your van is you ALWAYS end up filling it with sh!t and want a bigger one". so for now i'll stick with me transit connect. i can get 15 6x3 boards in diagonally if its empty.

i use a vauxhall combo van, does the job nicely, can get beads in no probs and rest em on the dashboard diagonally tho limits how much you can load into the back then.... but you can easily strap them onto the roof rack.

i can get the 6x 3 sheets in the back stood up but again diagonally.... so i load one half the van, load the boards in then load up the last half, tho the roof rack will take the 8x4 sheets no probs, tho load an 8x4 sheet of ply on first to give it a more solid base, dont want to have any get damaged with my irratic driving  ;)  overall its a nice size van with plenty of room and cheap to run, but will you be happy enough loading stuff onto the roof in this horrible weather?  personally im looking at getting something bigger with a bloody good set of locks on as id like to have a supply of beads and board etc kept in their all the time as it wastes so much time when i have to drive across town to get something ::)

I'm still working out of my car at the mo  :-/ , can get all the gear in there but no chance with board. Am thinking either a trusty escort van, an LDV cub or the nissan vanette. Anyone have any of these and how do they fair? Do 2.4 x 1.2 boards fit in the latter 2?

no, a swb tranny will take an 8x4... just, if theres no boarding behind the seats
its just that a lwb wont set you back any more (unless its brand spanking new), they generally have a heavier duty axle (so can take more weight) and you might just find you can get 3.6m lenghts of cove in em (very handy, but youll need to send em into the cab on an angle)

I went to a local auction and picked up an old british gas renault master. Say old it had 57k on the clock and was 4 y/o. FSH. Fully racked inside with strong box for expensive kit and enough room down the middle for plasterboard. On the roof it has a pull down ladder rack and two long tubes that i put 3m beads into. Its is an excellent van. Cost £1500 at auction and with tax came to just under 2k.

British gas get rid of loads of fully kitted vans so check out your local auction.

can you get 8 by 4 boards in those vans big mart???

Yes mate. There is shelving/racking on both sites, ideal for keeping all tools within easy reach. 8x4 boards go down the middle a treat. 3m beads on the roof in the tubes. Its ideal for any plasterer.
