Eyup chaps,

Just rememberd got a big loft conversion next week. Its been specced out with 50mm celotex and 12.5mm Plasterboard.

Its all been plywood out first onto the joist so good for fixings.

What length screws would you guys go for?

Most importantly any advice where I can pick some up or have delivered for Wednesday next week in south Yorkshire?

Any price info appreciated?

Thanks chaps zombie

Aquapanel washers or wedi washers on 100mm screws. You can get the washers at go interiors or anywhere else online I guess.

You want to make sure your fixing in to the joists so you need a screw which will go the rough the board, Insulation, Plywood and then penetrate 25mm in to the joists, so you're looking at least a 100mm screw

Defo 100mm and not 75mm..that would only leave 12.5mm thread into the joist..we are doing same nxt week in top floor of a house

By the sound of it it's quite common that people just fire it up with screws no washers, I always crossbatten or use washers, I might be OTT?

That's true
100mm is preferable but in essence you would get away with 75 rightly or wrongly.
I always oversize my screws personally but in the context of the question asked the minimum the op would get away with would be 75mm

Would I use 75mm on said job of it was my own no

But it is what it is
Ironically it's a bit of a daft question
If you dont know what size screws you need to use you really shouldn't be doing the job IMO

Although I give benefit of the doubt to my south Yorkshire pal here as it's not one of these 1 post wonders that's been coming on recently

Defo ott is washers pal..imagine builders face wen u said u was charging extra per m2 as u need to allow extra time for using washers..

Has anyone mentioned that if you're just screwing into the plywood, you should check that it's is adequately fixed?

Did this room on Thursday..guess wat!!!!!!! No washers! Omg I'm guna kill sum1 noooooooooooooooo!! Call the shortcut police..

Last job I did with these sorts of thicknesses I used the long screws with washers. They said they were coated but I wasn't confident(no stainless steel in stock), so I sprayed washers with stainblock and then PVA d that when dry. Took f**k**g ages.

I don't want to get too technical but I use big screws

I've done kitchys way in my own home on a vaulted ceiling with insulation behind and six years later no problem
Yes, if done well it's fine, i think if You don't do this sort of thing a lot then using a washer gives a bit of confidence/stability. The best way I've always found is try to screw then if struggling add a washer.
