Hi mate, there could be a few reasons your getting them. Going on too early with too much pressure could cause it, applying diffrent pressure to the trowel when troweling could cause it and if your laying on too thick that could be a cause as well.
 
Think he's on about tiger stripes or streaky bacon...........use a new mix for laying in with and dont put it on too thick
 
Hi I seem to frequently get waves in my plaster when I am troweling up. How do I avoid this. Thanks

I can get on it early with a fair bit of water with one trowel the other I have to wait till its bone dry nearly
