Was working on a site rear stanstead airport some years back, nice easy touch just skimming walls and ceilings i think the houses were worth around £600 i was the only spread on site and was doing one and a bit houses per week not breaking into a sweat.I was getting behind the builders who had 3 houses ready in front off me, the agent said they had to get more spreads in which was fair enough, on this Friday a cortina Mk 4 turned up and out jumped this spread about mid 20s with two great gold earrings walks into my plot and starts talking as you do.
Alright mate how long it take you to do one of these then mate ! i said about 4 days, how much they worth then mate , i said £600 mate ...... fook that he said i want 2 of them a week bah bah bah, anyway he walks next door 10 Min's later he comes back I'm not starting in there S*** everywhere tacking is rough bah bah he said anyway drives off, mean while the tackers been pulled on some of his work the labourers are cleaning out the next house.

Monday comes and the spread is back i don't see him all week till the Friday 12oc ish that's me done 2 houses doddle mate £1200 quid lovely you wanna speed up mate lol..... ok i said i will he says his good byes and goes, a couple of hours later agent walks in and shouts you seen what that fooking spread as done ? no mate i said laughing, come and have a look the agent says ........ well there was plaster everywhere all over the stairs , windows the ceilings looked one coated he'd missed 3-4 sets of reveals missed the cupboard under the stairs the ceiling and one wall in the cupboard upstairs most of the walls on the first floor was not low enough to be covered by the skiting not it could be fixed it was so messy , he'd been using two car tyres lashed together as a hop up which he'd left behind there must of been 30 empty bags of crisps cans of coke everywhere you get the picture. Anyway his work had to be put right by me on day work i never saw the lad again but is funny the people you meet on site? i wonder if he got paid i never found that out .

Went to price a job up, massive extension about 3x size of exixiting house but only wanted quoting for a small part of it that was ready. Being young and naive (long time back lads) I duly went along and gave a quote that was too cheap, butbeing young and a spratt to ctach a mackrel menatlity, I was told in no uncertain terms I was to expensive.

About 3 weeks later the joiner who passed on the info asked me to call round at the job again, muttering something about the state of the plastering. Decided to call round anyway cos not that much on at the time to be asked to put right the other plasterers work and price for some more work. The look on the punters face was worth a fortune when I told him that I didn't want to quote because if I was to expensive last time I would be this. He was stood on the drive with his hands on his hips and mouth wide open when I looked in the rear view mirror PRICELESS.

i had a full page essay from the boss on my last price job telling us not to be selfish so and so's and make sure all the work and work area is spotless, all rubbish in the skip or in a central area etc, nothing to be left inc reveals ;D
he's got a point work is tight and so are prices so we cant afford to get charged for return visits and site labourers cleaning up our mess

i know several, the last being a 40 odd year old bloke who said he had 21 yrs experience.
i was working on a extension as a local builder (if u could call him that) got in touch to ask me if i could put some plastering right that the previous spread had messed up.
he had plastered over wallpaper, rendered next doors roof with his 1 coat of torylean (sorry for spelling) basically made a right f**k up of this house.
any way he came back to collect some of his tools and says to me, oh you the new spread then. u look alright this is my card give me a ring some time if u need work.
i never rung the guy but he got my number from the joiner i think, the rings the builder who was in charge and slags me off. trying to get his old job back.
it failed and i soon found a better paid job and left these cowboys to it.
i got a txt from him couple of weeks ago askin me to name this company i had started a job for. i didn't.
but i did give him my fellow spreads number and told him my mate was the gaffer of this firm and what do u know he rung up straight away.
he rung we checked his reference's told him we had loadsa work (not really) he got all exited. then we told him his reference's had come back s**t.
he begged on the phone for a job so we got him on loud speaker and shouted. if we get any diggin out mate we will give u a shout. lol great.

the guy is a joke he tried losing me my first job then tried to steal the second.
