has any one tried to put pral M over SBR sand and cement scratch coat or srurry coat????
I know we are all trying to save money were we can on jobs rather then paying £16 a bag or weber rend-aid......

we have used SBR with s/c render in the past but never with monocouche

do you think it can be done ie mix SBR with s/c lay on bed you mesh in to it then scratch or stipple ready for weber pral m over the top once its dry???

you can get rend aid for less than 16 if your buying amounts, if your puting it on at around 6mm a bag covers a fair amount
just use rend aid as part the course for the system, why scrimp.

i was asked by a builder as its small build 60m2 thought he can save money as he gets rend aid for £16

you get around 4 metres a bag coverage so 60 metres is 15 bags
buy a tonne of sand few bags of cement tub of sbr, job drags on because you have to wait for sand and cement to dry....
how much you going to save the odd 100 quid or so,if the builders scrimping i wouldnt be entertaining it.

Because that's what ****** , monkey, ******* or whatever else he wants to call himself does ! !

I did my first Weber Pral M job on a waterproofed Sand and cement scratch. First and last time, that all I need to say.

i have been experimenting with SBR mixed in to weber OCR tiling and it has gone -off like rock some stuff !!!!!!!,i have dripped water onto it and it has jut stayed on top and not even penetrated ,.

I've seen plasterers in Bristol putting K Rend over waterproof sand and cement, I go past the jobs daily, never seen any issues with them. Not sure about Pral M though can't be much difference between the products though.

Personally I would risk it, I've often dubbed out with sand and cement before Rend Aid without issues though.

What happened rigsby?

Well ok then seeing as you asked.

It was a rubble stone wall so we applied sbr and several coats of sand and cement until it was flat. We then fixed 15mm stop, drips and expansion beads.

Now, when we have waterproofed render on top of waterproofed render we sometimes get a bit of suction. So, is a bit of suction in our favour when hand applying mono or not? We decided no suction was in our favour so we hose piped it down. Soaked it!

Then came applying 18mm of Weber ivory mono in two 9mm coats. What a joke! It just slid down the wall! Slumps everywhere!

We did get the 2 coats on eventually and loads on the floor. It had slumps all over it!. it was in November so it was left until next morning.

It was set just right for I sectioning but the slump created hollows. Managed to fill them in and it looked ok on finishing.

We got paid and I never went back to see how it dried out.

We have done hand applied since but only small walls and on rend-aid. If it is over 20m2 it is machined on and Granicem or SAS at 10mm. 4-3 r&s.

No I'm being serious John I've got to do one over sand cement scratch coat, I was going to cut back on the waterproofer a bit as I was worried it might all slide down the wall lol

Spunky, last year I scratch coated a house s&c with waterproofer in it, went on holiday over Glasgow fair came back and top coated it with e-grade by hand, though I primed it with 4-1 sbr before applying k-rend, the job is sound.

I did it to 15mm because Weber told me to. If you can use a mono that can go on 10mm.

13mm in 2 passes is easier than 18mm.

We did a job all scratched in sand and cement, then topped with weber PST, 10 mm coat scrapped back to 6 mm thats what the spec was. We had to have the scratch perfect, tho we did put it on a bit more than 10mm. contractor was wondering why we had to order more weber as it was order to do the whole outside at 10 mm exactly :rolleyes)
