The trick is letting people know you have a website - make sure you keep on top of Google ad-words or something similar so you are high on the list of search engine results - Oh and make sure its all over your van !!
Not sure how many jobs Ive actually got from mine, but when I'm quoting, I always point people to it for photo's, testimonials etc... and 9 times out of 10 that tends to seal the deal.
I also got a link to Facebook on mine where I can put photos on myself - it seems every bugger is on FB these days and its a good medium for work - got lots of jobs from FB where friends of friends see any updates

Pristine you have hit the nail on the head...
Your site is a window into your work... its there to show off and showcase how good you are.
Getting trafffic is the hardest thing and its the same for everybody that has a presence on the web. You can go on a huge website promotion doing all sorts of things online but doing it too quick and you will start ringing alarm bells in google. You need to do it slow and steady and then it gets a good firm footing, I know time is big prob when everybody needs work.
You can look at Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising but that people is mega money and can go wrong very quickly, I used to have a £60 budget a day to spend on it and I used to cane it....lol
