I'm doing a job for myself this week and when I looked at it, priced it and got it all was good.

Nice 1980s semi detached.

3x artex ceilings over skim

Remove coving and 2x ceiling roses in one room

Patch around were a new wood burning stove is going ( I said ill sand cement then skim full height as its not worth blending).

Board 2 window heads, skim.

He said carpets are being ripped up, paper will be stripped etc.

So Monday take the coving off and loose 1ft of plasterboard all the way along the ceiling, and 2 walls went back to bear brick work even though there sand cement.

Take the ceiling roses off they rip half a sheet of board down with them each

So reboarded and roughed all the walls back square, owner popped in said can I skim were he removed architrave and left all the adhesive proud of the wall

Tuesday morning pva the ceiling after I spent the day before re boading most of it and scraping it back, pva would not take literally took over two hours to go semi tacky. So while that ceiling was going off I scraped the other one and pvaed it and it did not take to it at all stayed wet all day. So I prepped the last one and pvaed it.

Today skimmed both of the artex ceilings I prepped the day before, skim took hours to go off so while it was drying I dabbed the plaster board onto the window heads, the dab did not take to the concrete lintel at all, 3 hours propped up and it dryed into the board but not lintel.

So I beaded and skimmed the chimley breast 3 sides and the tops were I removed the coving, half way up the chimney breast wall it pickled like hell and a patch of old skim come off with woodchip paper behind it.

I allowed 3 chilled days for this job, 1 day prepping 2 days skimming no worries I'm on my 4th tomorrow and been working non stop up to it trying to claw back time

Oh and the owner isn't getting rid of the carpets just yet.

I haven't come for sympathy I just need to rant, someone please say they had a job go completely up in the air like this too!

Sounds like you need a beer more than me!!

We all get days/jobs like this.Even If I've a small job to do on a Saturday morning I'll never let myself think this is a handy one,and I'll be home early.Something always happens if I expect that.

The boarding in this plot was crap today I had to wind a couple of screws in they'd missed and surform some reveals back .

what a nightmare.
Oh yeah :sorprendido3:

Haha helluva job mate.

Feel better after a rant eh?.

Ive not long got in after dot n dab a back wall around a window. Huge headache as the wall seemed to finish short of the ceiling. Had to baton out, and for head of window. The room used to be part of a shop years ago, and rough as s**t. Need to do a suspended ceiling weekend for it.

It was one of them no finesse jobs just get in straight and solid ready for skim.
what a nightmare.

U should buy a good rope. Just joking I feel your pain was on a job last year 3 weeks of anything that could go wrong went worng. It put me off plastering for life. Even though I hated plastering b4 that. I then decided not to work for a month after that job a month turned into 3 months. I did do the odd day here and there and by day I mean a few hours.:birra:

@roryston It happens to us all occasionally . Last Friday had a single lounge ceiling to skim, nice job for a wind down, artex was dry so couldn't use uni. Pva sucked straight in, so gave it another. Started to bubble, bit of a scrape and whole lot starts coming off, ended up taking it back to board, like the f**k**g arctic in there, snowstorm of artex. Bone dry boards, had to pva again twice, so that's 4 coats and lungs full of dust (forgot mask) . Ended up being a late finish and the customer complaining about the dust. Painful.

Were all good gentleman.

Finished the job today no worries, all cleaned up and left at 4.

Texted the gaffer saying all was done and he paid up no problems.

I was expecting another crap day when I couldn't find my keys this morning and my good lady decided to pick up were she left off after Wednesday mornings argueement, I never seen a bottle of water fly across the room so fast!

Safe to say I'm in no rush to go over artex ceilings again, @zombies trick of the "magic mix" definitely made things a hell of a lot easier and if I ever go ontop some iggidy piggidy walls again I will definitely use it but I still don't want to touch artex again, I may join the boarding brigade!
