I'm doing a job for myself this week and when I looked at it, priced it and got it all was good.
Nice 1980s semi detached.
3x artex ceilings over skim
Remove coving and 2x ceiling roses in one room
Patch around were a new wood burning stove is going ( I said ill sand cement then skim full height as its not worth blending).
Board 2 window heads, skim.
He said carpets are being ripped up, paper will be stripped etc.
So Monday take the coving off and loose 1ft of plasterboard all the way along the ceiling, and 2 walls went back to bear brick work even though there sand cement.
Take the ceiling roses off they rip half a sheet of board down with them each
So reboarded and roughed all the walls back square, owner popped in said can I skim were he removed architrave and left all the adhesive proud of the wall
Tuesday morning pva the ceiling after I spent the day before re boading most of it and scraping it back, pva would not take literally took over two hours to go semi tacky. So while that ceiling was going off I scraped the other one and pvaed it and it did not take to it at all stayed wet all day. So I prepped the last one and pvaed it.
Today skimmed both of the artex ceilings I prepped the day before, skim took hours to go off so while it was drying I dabbed the plaster board onto the window heads, the dab did not take to the concrete lintel at all, 3 hours propped up and it dryed into the board but not lintel.
So I beaded and skimmed the chimley breast 3 sides and the tops were I removed the coving, half way up the chimney breast wall it pickled like hell and a patch of old skim come off with woodchip paper behind it.
I allowed 3 chilled days for this job, 1 day prepping 2 days skimming no worries I'm on my 4th tomorrow and been working non stop up to it trying to claw back time
Oh and the owner isn't getting rid of the carpets just yet.
I haven't come for sympathy I just need to rant, someone please say they had a job go completely up in the air like this too!
