Looked at a job yesterday the client had hacked the walls off because it was all loose they said, and they have been told it's got salt peter on it!
So what is it and can i just pva the bricks to seal it, then bonding & skim as normal?

Sound like damp tell the client to get it checked by a damp proof company....Or hack off the plaster 1m high apply sand and cement with water repelent kepping it off the floor a few inches and skim with board finish.(not being funny Ahned but this one sounds out your league mate anyway good luck)

who told them it has salt peter on the wall or do they mean salt petre salts in the plaster and brick work. I think salt peter is used to make gunpowder any way if it is later salts use anti sulphate spray on walls were effected and use a product like renderlite to render brickwork.

sometimes salty deposits carry through to the surface in damp areas you need to assess the damp properly first so as you can do the right job and stop it from coming back. you need to speak to someone with experience.

Call a damp proofing company ,you may need to use a salt inhibitor in the scratch coat or coats to stop the salt bleeding through the plasterwork ,but i reckon the walls will have to be injected first.

As far as I knew, saltpetre was (is) used in fags to keep them lit - although how you light a homosexual, I don't know:-0
