Hi guys i went round to my uncles rental property to start the work & started hacking the loose plaster & found this!!!!
What is it?
I think I'm out of my depth here guys, my uncle said something about tanking?
Any help appreciated.

What is this stuff?

What is this stuff?

this is called K-Lath we used to use it as DAMP-PROOF MEMBRAIN !! so be carefull there will be rising damp or damp behind it!!

So will i have to use render? (I haven't done much rendering)
Or can i buy some more of this & nail it on?
It was all loose about 2cm off the bricks!

if you go ahead and take it off you will have to ether re-place membrane ( k-lath ) with as your uncle said tanking!! or inject a DPC then re-plaster
the k-lath is bitumen

you have in effect punctured it now !! you cant nail anything as you will breach the cavity between the k-lath where damp will come through, you should get help from a pro-dampoofer IMO mate you are a bit out of your depth!! soz

If it was me and by the sounds of it your not that experienced I would get a local spread in and offer to labour for him (for free) and then you can see firstly what needs to be done and you can learn as well.

Just my opinion but to me this is not a straight forward float and set

Danny

I think your right, they never told me about any of this on my course!
Will tell my uncle the bad news tomorrow.
Thanks for your help.

Yep I think thats a good call

remember a course is only a taster of the trade you only start learning when you start working and it takes time

Good luck

Danny i tried to delete my other thread called "what is this stuff" because i messed it up.
So i started this one.
But i can't delete the other one, can you do it for me please?
Thanks Danny.

imo it would be better 2 take it all off & use a more up to date damproof system ie dpm mesh which u can dabe m r boards & skim or render & use render gold damproof addetive & skim after as i dont think u will be able patch it up as they probebly dont make it any more :RpS_thumbup:

i would take it off and replace it with delta membrane but it aint cheap and have to be sealed properly with the nailable plastic knockins this can then be bonded and skimmed but like said it might be out of your depth mate
