What mix ?

Hi guys , just wondering what everyone usually does with sand and cement . I usually start with 4-1 for the dubbing out and then the first coat ( same day) then finish coat of 5-1 just wondering is that ok ? I know some boys do a 4-1 for the first two coats and the finish ? Just want to know what's best ? Thanks

It depends on the background, brick or block that's solid will be suitable for 4/1 mix, thermalites would be suitable for 6/1 scratch, it also depends on whether you scud or sbr scud etc. floating coat is best at least a week later, keeping sure that the scratch doesn't excessively dry out in hot weather either by covering or dampening down
