what would you guys do about this?

few months ago my younger brother put me on to one of his mates dad for a re skim on 2 chimney breasts
dead simple 1 in each room did it for a 100 quid mates rates i supplied materials

finished the job fine. clean no mess perfect finish asked for my money and he said my wife is just on the way home from work can you come back later shes got your money. herd him on the phone to her saying id done a good job so thought nothing of it.

go round later shes forgotten, she says to my brothers mate can you get his money out so her son paid me 40 quid as that was all he had in his account

said hed drop the rest round 2moro.

next day came, nothing

i was quite busy with other work so didnt chase it up straight away just thought id pop round when i had the time local and friends of the family thought no worries.

i see my bro later that week and he says go round and see them cos theyve painted it and its bubbled!

went round to see them and there was tiny bubbles all over the plaster on one of the chimney breasts they painted. The other was fine though not decorated.
I offered to re skim it as i couldnt understand why it had bubbled im possitive i left it perfect all i know is that she had used silk paint and it cant of been dryed properly as she painted it within the week. but i said id sort it as a sign of good faith even though they shouldnt of painted it that soon

said to them ill be round 2moro to sort it sat my day off. they said can we call you when were free cos we dont know what were doin yet.

its been about 3 months and theyve not called me, they avoid me in the street ive seen him in the co-op and said are you gonna let me sort that chimney out for you? yeah mate ill give you a call.

NOTHING!

the wife came to my brothers 21st birthday avioded me like the plague

thing is if it wasnt my brothes mates dad id of strung him up
anyone ever had to deal with anything like this? im pissed off cos it looks bad on me

i know its only 60 quid but its principle

any similar stories?
how would you guys handle this?

might just go round and render his car as i cant get in his house to put my work right

They shouldnt of used silk thats probably the problem, its upto you what you do about your money but i was prepared to kill one of my neighbours over a fiver the other day lol F*****g nutcate broke my van window the other week so i went and seen him, never met him before. He has mental health problems so i felt a bit sorry for him so i replaced the window with one from a scrap yard for £15 and fitted it myself, anyway he gave me a tenner and has fobbed me off for the last two weeks sayin "i will give you the fiver on Monday". Well after seein the c**t comin back from the shops more than once with his beers i was growling yesterday so nearly knocked his door down, anyway got my fiver lol. Its the principle so its upto you.
 
Just knock around ,ask for YOUR MONEY, and keep knocking,dont let them shame you,its not begging youve worked for it, the air bubbles arent down to you they painted it too soon,Look just do it or you may throw those tools away,otherwise you will be always rode

You didn't paint the wall did you, so it's not your problem what they do afterwards & make them aware of that,
just get your money off em mate or it'll wind you up for ever.
Failing that there's always molotov cocktails ;D
 
Sorry Rob but don't feel that cos he's a mate of your brother you owe him anything. If they painted it too soon thats their problem mate, not yours. Go a calling and if needs must start talking to people they know and make sure that you give them the full story as well. Be seeing you soon mate.
 
expanding foam up exhaust pipe then you will have the last laugh ;)
 
Knock on the door and when they open it barge in and grab the telly or stereo or something worth more than what your owed and hold it ransom!!! Being to nice won't get u anywhere...be ruthless!!!

yer if he looked like u he would probably get away with it lol
 
:-\ Sounds like most people at the mo no one wants to pay its just the way it is in this so called reccession every ones holding on to every penny they have plus if there is a prob with just a few bubbles they should give you the chance to put it right as it should only take a bit of sanding.
 
and if u want to use silk paint u should mist coat it with matt and i bet thay never ,neat silk straight on it will bubble

[/quote ]Sorry Bod it aint his problem ,I understand people are strapped at the moment but you dont get work done and expect it for nothing,when you get on a bus you pay ,when get a beer in a bar you pay,when you go to the shops you pay,nothing for nothing ,it aint a benevelent fund ,its you craft ,your skill and experience that they are paying for ,the painting is only a problem if he did a bad job,I dont think he did,I think they painted it too soon with silk finish when the plaster was too wet and the moisture pushed through

Yep there are no friends in business!

mate or not go round and fire a few fooks into them if they were a friend they would have paid you on the day and not messed you around!

Its the same as lending them money,you lent your money [craft] for them to do the job ,now they owe you that money,but they are making a c**t out of you now. The quickest way to lose a friend is to lend him money.JUST GET IT ,ITS YOURS

never a more true word said,never lend money to mates it nairly always ends in bother.

best one i ever did was when i was younger a good ten, twelve years ago did a job for friend of a friend couldnt get paid,long story short i ended up putting his audi in auto trader for a reasonable price but a good chunk lower than what it was worth, i later found out his phone was nonestop for days, this was before mobiles so it was calls direct to his home landline.priceless ;)
 
Spreads, I wouldn't expect a bus driver to take me half way, I wouldn't buy a pint and be happy with it only half filled. If someone is unhappy with my work then as a professional tradesman I have a responsibility to put it right. Thats just the way it is. Especially so in these times with the recession. Some people try to take advantage of a tradesmans good name to get a job done cheap or free. So you have an extra responsibility to put right any wrongs, regardless.
 
right im going round 2moro night after my quotes with expanding foam
ive had a beer now so might say or do somethin stupid

will let you all know how it goes if ive not been arrested.

Sorry bod ,didnt know you did painting as well as plastering,Im just a plasterer and thats what Im pretty good at.Robh has offered to repaint the job ,but has been fobbed of because they dont want to pay.Maybe hes a painter too but I dont think he priced for that.Anyway Everyone to their own,.Spreads the plastering Contractor
 
Thought this was a plasterers forum lads,Hey robh ,just get your money and if there looking for a painter give them BODs number ;D

Fair play spreads i suppose you answered my question that there are plasterers and there are PLASTERERS clearly with that attitude £60 means alot to you ;)
