Got pulled in to help a mate S&C render some dwarft wall in the garden - no more than a metre high by about 12 metres - He's already scratched them the week before.

Once I started to lay the top coat on (having hosed the wall down first ) it was nearly drying as I laid it on !!
I put it down to the scratch coat having been on for a week but then I asked if he had used any waterproofer in the scratch or the top coat ?

None at all, he replied ! - So in short, both coats dont have any waterproofer in them - He's a know all so and so and I didnt bother to argue with him and as it was his job I didnt care - He also insisted on using the same 4:1 ratio on the scratch aswell as the top coat - Again, I would have used a 5:1 on the top coat but didn't care cos it was his job

Whats the worst that can happen guys ?? - I'm secretly hoping its all gonna crack and fall off, but whats more likely ??

Hi m8. I know a few people like that do my head in, won't listen think there way is the only way and dont give a **** about any1 else! lol

You don't have to put waterproofer in the mix...for example wouldn't use in winter time otherwise mix will take ages to go off...should have used it on this job would have given u more time to finish...was it sponge finish? did u manage to get a good finish? I remember when i first started out i had a similar job with a builder who thought he knew it all...it was south facing 4 stories high we had spent 4 days getting the render off...it was rock hard almost pure cement! I recommended we put waterproofer in the scratch...didn't listen only plasticiser...on the way down the next day i recommended we hose piped down the scratch...didnt listen...whacked the top coat on sun was blazing directly on it 28 degrees couldn't keep up...half of it had to come back off the wall...we were there till 7 finishing it and it still looked terrible because of the join...he got a call back and lost 4000 grand of further work cause of this.

sp back to your question assuming u got a good finish it might be ok...but if it dried to quickly theres a possibility it will crack!

To be honest i use 4:1 - 4:1 never had a problem...but put waterproofer in both coats in summer. :D
