s.p.t plastering

I always ask them to take the radiator off, as i don't know how to do it myself, plus always parinoid i might break it or get a leak. But would be handy to know how to do it, as i had to plaster right round one the other week, as the customer promised to get it off and didn't, what a nightmate, got there in the end though.

Also with curtain tracks, i always try to get them to take them off to, and leave screws in. So much better easier and quicker, insted of trying to plaster round a curtain rail..

I had a little loft conversion some hippy had borded his self the other week( when i priced it wasn't borded) jesus u have never seen nothing like it, worst job iv'e ever had to do, i had to lie on my back in the corner of the loft to be able to get right in to the corner, plus it was hot as f**k and itchy it was the worst boarding iv'e ever had to skim. I was going to walk off and tell him to get someone else, but cause didn't have much on, had no choice really!!

What's the worst you lads have had to get round in someones house?

iv turnd up to do rooms b4 u get there on your own and the room is full of bed wardroops doors cloths ect as if you were never coming round! also mr segs did a gr8 long post on takin a rad off take a look(ts easy to do) and you got more chance of landin the job if you can do more for them

Had a loft conversion to skim a few years back. Im 6ft5 in height so does come in handy most of the time apart form this occasion their was an en-suite a with a bath sink toilet-the usual But i couldnt even stand up in the place apart from opening the velux to stick my head through and had to plaster it on my knees! lol

Cheers mate, will check that out.

Take it you take yours off your self than?

What about curtain rails, do you take all that off your self to?

o yea take the rail off and all screws u dnt want them screws on the edge were the beads meet will be a pain in the ass, just let um no they will need re fixing

Don't worry Murplastering all the lads on here have public liability to cover that.....WHAT!! you mean my insurance doesn't cover that because I'm a plasterer not a plumber oh sh**.

marry it in around the rad if they wont take it off .........it aint youre house mate f**k em

its a load of b*ll***s anyway cause they always leave the bastid screws in and you end up nicking youre trowel ;D

ha some time i leave the brakets on! i no i no some people will tit over that but it goes on easy and is good to trowel around

when i was still learning and doing a few private jobs i used to hammer the f uckers back in ;D

never ever take a rad off if it leaks in 6 months time when they fancy a new carpet theyll nail your hat on
i dont get leaks these days...
i used to when i first started messin with plumbing years ago but its caused by doing silly things like nukeing the nuts up silly tight... the trick is to be a bit careful... and a good tip is to wind some ptfe round the OLIVE!!! dont bother using it on the threads, ptfe round threads on a compression fitting is a comlete waste of time and will most probably cause the joint to leak... nip the joint up, live up the pipework, check it with bogroll, if it still leaks give it another 1/4 turn... assuming youve ptfe'd the olive it should give you no more problems.. even old olives which have been nuked up before..
best thing ive found for tapered / threaded joints is boss green... fantastic stuff.. works really well on plastic washers too..

on the subject of doing more for em...
ive just done a job that was supposed to be -
stud out 50mm off a single skin wall (x2) cellotex, vapour barrier, duplex and skim...
quoted this job 8 weeks ago...
got there and the blokes got 12 yes TWELVE double sockets, 4 spurs, 2 dodgy connections... a complete f'ck up tbh...
me being me i put the bugger right before i started... it took me 2 days too get it boarded ready for skimming...
i should have walked away and told him to get the 'sparky' (sparky my arse) back...

not a word of thanks...

i was expecting to have the kitchen boarded and the conny dabbed 1st day.. the lot skimmed the 2nd day.... screed conny 3rd day....

i spent 4 days there, ended up dabbing extra in the kitchen too and ive yet to screen the conny...

well p'ssed off...

quotes a quote like but the bloke may yet pay extra for the electrics (even though i aint a spark, but he reckons he's got a test cert for it...)

sometimes i just make a rod for my own back...

bloke pulled me into the bathroom yesterday afternoon to 'pick my brains'..

had to shout the missus to point out the smalles hairline crack ive ever seen...

'builders supposed to have put a new ceiling up! what should we do?'

jobs a year old, on a real old house and the crack is 6"long on a vaulted bit on existing joists...

told them if thats the worst thats happened in 12 months theyve done well considering...

they looked miffed...

paid ok though...

::)
