hi guys i am after your knowlege again, my drill drivers pact up, so I fancy getting an impact driver, the reason being I need power for overboarding ceilings, my old drill used to struggle to drive the screws home so I was thinking about one of those makita 10.8v
Makita TD090DWE 10.8V 1.3Ah Li-Ion Cordless Impact Driver

any one used one of these for overboarding, basicly i am after a lightweight driver with power for working alone, at a guess I would think 10.8 v would be ample for overboarding, and i would hope it would have a slow start speed to control the start of the screwing, any views on this or other's, £150 would be my limit

sorry about the big letter's

Got that Makita set (drill + impact) recently. Used it for putting up a couple of ceilings. I personally like it. Nice and light. Which is good when holding above your head!! Didn't struggle for me at all. Not sure what others use. Heard good things about the Bosch ones too. Can see the Makita ones in Wickes. Though cheaper online!

I use a Festool cxs which has 2 batteries 2.6ah and fine for 50 & 65mm screws very light and an angle attatchment for small awkward areas above cupboards in kitchens. Its not an impact though as carlos says they too loud so you cant hear the radio or the client asking if you want a cuppa. :)

I have an 18v makita Impact driver and don't think it's overly heavy,in fact I don't think its heavy at all really,Ive overboarded many ceilings alone with it.i did already have the batteries and charger so brought the impact on its own for about £90.

I use this, it's really quiet.
which impact driver?

I have makita set and dewalt set10.8 the dewalt a are much better and have lots more Torx I don't use them for boarding but they are both more than caplable, but for me I love the newer sencos collated

I have an eubauer one... noisy but damn good.. I don't use it for boarding though..... built the rest of my place with one though much to the annoyance of the neighbours

Noisy as ... The more you pay the less so ... The hilti impact is brilliant I have the Makita 18v brushless I have tried the 10.8v and the batteries don't seem that good you'll be left with a drill and no batteries. Also got to figure in the vibration cold tingly fingers that go numb so you can't feel them. Best avoided if you can get a corded lightweight drywall driver?

Forgot to add on the Makita the control is on the trigger the lighter you squeeze the slower the spin you'll get used to it. Also have to slow down at the end to avoid popping the paper. Also the plaster in the board falls directly on the drill and can knack up the mechanism so keep some wd handy to keep it going

You should blow the dust away with an airline. Dust will cling to WD etc and clog it up.

aspotofbother, you say u have the set,

has the impact driver got a slow start speed on this model?

I believe it does, though find the driver more than capable for boarding anyway. So haven't used it that much. Could check again tomorrow once I get back to work, got me wondering now!
As has been said batteries could be better, but I have two, so don't really see it as an issue. One on charge whilst the other being used.
I did a 4m x 2.7m on the one battery the other week. So I'm happy with that! Might piss me off if I was doing day and days of it though!

I hate people boarding with impact drivers, is it the noise that attracts people to them, been on lots of sites and the fn noise is brutal and unnescesary

Like my old man, who seems to use every power tool he has on max settings regardless of the job!!!!
Brilliant, he's like the Jeremy Clarkson of the power tool world. Makes me laugh every time I work with him!
