Hi Chaps,

Im considering going on a couple of the modern render courses to enable me to firstly purchase the gear and also be able to supply warrantys etc.

Ive done bits and bobs on the ewi side and texture finsh but am knowhere near fully competent.

I have no experance in mono at all.

So if you was to go on any courses based on which product are nicest to use/manufacturer service/customer demand

1) Thincoats (Texture Finish & Dashng)
2) Mono

Can you recommend any particular manufacturers?

PS..preferabley somewhere close to south Yorkshire but would travel if it means access to better products after course etc

As always appreciated lads:RpS_thumbup:

We only do the mono ,and it just keeps getting busier all the time ,been asked to do Ewi 3 times in 8 years , i do like the in&out of mono render ,on to the next one :RpS_thumbup:

If you want to do all (mono, thin coat and dash) the formal training with one supplier, I would advise you look at either K Rend, Parex or Weber (some of the other suppliers do 1 or 2 of the systems, but I am not aware that any do them all.... maybe Wetherby as well?)

I think that Parex have a training facility in Yorkshire (or they were looking at getting one)

K Rend have their centre in Larne N Ireland - but may be able to do a course more local, ask them.

Weber have training centres as part of the St Gobain network, so I don't think you will have to go down to Flitwick (strange for me to say that... working for Knauf)

You may be able to set something up through Lord and Downing - I think that they are looking at a training area in their new office near Rotherham.... not sure how far away that will be though, you may get a system supplier head some training up through them....

Good Luck

Prob best to just learn with other spreads. But worth a phonecall. Best to stick with one maybe two suppliers. I stay with two. Keeps mats simple and build a relationship with your rep. ( that way they are more willing to help you load out your materials on site @runwithscissors)

Good luck with it tho mate. Sounds like your going well with it

I have been on several courses. Weber was good as they let you do some mono spraying and Ashlar jointing. You can do it if you set off a 6.30am or there B&b's nearby. Their ewi wasn't bad either. The smaller companies are not that good. Bit basic. But if it warranties you want to offer then give Weber a miss.

SAS was very informative but you do not spray mono just finish it. Bit far as well being Exeter.

Don't know about Parex. SPS is a crash course and no mono.

Maybe K Rend? Just don't book a bag on flybe's hold. They will rob you for £40 each way! There is another airline from Doncaster. Bugger Flybe robbing gits!

it doesn't just work like that,
basically anyone will supply you if you want to go through the merchants for product but if you want to start issuing paperwork its another game, ie warranties. its chicken and egg, manufactorers will want to see previous projects and know that your competent before they issue you a applicators card, but to get the applicators card youll need experience not just a course but on the job training aswell. your k rends and webers different but parex, enewall, sto etc are really tightening up with it, probably something to do with all the chancers with the green deal etc and all the poor instalations that have been done that are going back to haunt em.

In the green deal days parex were signing off allsorts of turkeys off with cards, I was a demonstrator at there training centre for a bit and some of the divs that came through the door they were skimmers chancing there arm after hearing about big bucks in render.
As dan has said use a couple of different suppliers and build up a relationship and rapour with the reps and youll get to the stage where they are approaching you with work and contacts, and signing your self off for warranties, doesn't happen over night but what does.

id be looking at going with a rendering gang to gain experience and get a feel for products to be honest, its how I started thrown in at the deep end, so that's my angle on it. but on the ewi front, I think it will become more to the fore over the years as heating bills go up and up, and time wil have it where you look back and think I had a solid cavity wall and all the heat was going through the wall why did I not insulate when replacing the render, one day it will reach a point where its common place when heating bills are at a level of unaffordability its only the cost of ewi that makes it prohibitive on domestic in most cases, but the last few years private domestic inquires for ewi have increased by a good 30% for us, and Id say sand and cement enquires are about 1 in 15 with us now.

Thanks owls,

realy appreciate your info there mate,:RpS_thumbup:

I do little bits and bobs with a mate who only does sand & cement and have done some of ewi with a gang I know etc.

I only take on little rendering jobs on my own the odd single story/bays/odd wall or so but would just like to have more option with products really and was under the impression that you needed to have gone on a course to be able to purchase the materials etc.

Don't get me wrong mate im under zero illusions that it wouldn't make me competent overnight though would also like to know the technical spec side of products along with application practicses etc.

So are you saying that I can currently purchase mono materials and thincoat materials from merchants without approved cards etc mate.?

thanks zombie:RpS_thumbup:

Keep in touch Zombie, you can come and watch us spray with the Ritmo. Might be spraying tomorrow if other spread doesn't get pissed tonight. Otherwise it will be Tuesday. Doing a ocr job in Wharncliffe side in two weeks. Just down road from Stocksbridge.

I spent 2 days with a pair of PFT Northern lads working in Manchester and was worth 2 days off without pay. I learned so much.

Spent a day with Southern Monkey (UlK Plastering Machines) in the middle of Bedfordshire somewhere learning bucket coat.

Never mind the day off this is real in the field training. You will not look back.

Spend a day with Keith.
