Hello,

Could someone please explain to me what white wash is??

How do you identify it??

And how do you deal with it other than overboarding, Can it be washed or scrapped off??

Many thanks for your help again!!!

White wash is basically lime mixed with water very thinly and troweled or painted onto walls, usually used on the exterior but sometimes on the inside too.
Its to be treated as distemper is mate.

As skimmin has said whitewash is made up from lime normally on external walls, if your dealing with internal works it's more than likely your dealing with distemper which was made up from chalk

i skimmed and old lath ceiling with it before. then the next day the ceiling fell off and took all the lime wash with it.. then i skimmed again.. thats the long way round lol

Ok thanks ! I think it must be distemper!

How do u tell if you have distemper on the wall ??

Also whats the best way to seal it or wash it off!!

If you run your fingers over it,if its distemper you'll see some on your fingers in the form of chalk/dust. you can get a sealer from paint suppliers,or you can wash it off using sugar soap.Dont try to seal it with PVA or you'll have problems as already said it will just come down.
