i know alot of plasterers have website`s now,as does myself.i had a website for a couple of years which was on either goggle page 1,2 0r 3.i also have a advert with free index which is on page 1 most of the time.in the 2 & half years these ads were live it`s generated 1 phone call,no work.
danny has now done me a website and i`ve got the working mans domain.i`m on page 1 almost 100% of the time, which is good.however no jobs or phone calls as yet.its probably almost 3 years now with a website and not a penny from it!!
i live in a area were word of mouth is key so luckily that keeps us going.how much work does there website bring in?
i think location is key here.as i live in a area where most people know someone who know`s a plasterer.the use of the web search is`nt needed
cheers

i have a website that generates a lot of volume, granted i spend a lot on SEO, but it it is well worth it.
depends on what you are doing.if you are a one man band plasterer, most people know one through a friend of a friend etc.

I'd say all my work come from my site.

I have been sat at home for 2 weeks though cause some prick canceled a job on the last minute, and only got a couple of days bookedin for new year so far...

Anything that gets your name out there and brings work in , from a post card in your local paper shop to a website.

When I went back on my own in 2006 I had a web site, got loads of work from it.
You could get top of google first page for 50p a click. Now everyones got a site and with companies like my builder, rated people, and local seach engines cuttering up the page it costs over £1.50 a click to get to the top of the page. Spent £100.00 the other month and I got was a D I Y E R asking advice. With money so tight about all people are doing seaching for the cheapest quote.

As owls said everyone knows someone who's a plasterer.
To many plasterers not enough work, in fact thats the problem for the whole country
no matter what game you are in

So are we saying that websites have have come to saturation point, only asking as i was thinking about one next year, dont realy need one but thought i would try it and see what happens but if its gonna cost me loads of money with no feedback i wont bother.

I only did a website cos i got a £75 google ads voucher with my liability insurance and ive got the odd job from it. It good just to use as a point of contact....

I had a good chat with my current boss he reckons there is less plasteres about now than 10 years ago, I believe him if I was running a business I could count on one hand who would be available And I could trust and that's after 11 years on site all the good spreads are tied up or doing there own thing and then you get some prick on the end of the phone offering 2 quid a metre ....there's loads of shite that will do it and I doubt they get paid, it seems at the mo we are the bottom of the pile

I had £5500 worth of work in the first year from my website which only cost me a couple of hundred quid at the time.
Not saying it'll work for everyone but it depends where your target market is.
I originally had mine as an online portfolio, I didn't expect to get any work from it at all, even though I hoped i would.
So it's more than paid for itself now.
Plus I've gained new customers from the website and also I've been recommended to people they know aswell.

So dont delay order your website today from Danny !!

(Commision please Daniel son :RpS_biggrin: )

Its one of those things,no one form of advertising works, you need a few different types, but id say a wedsite is a must, and it also needs to be on ya van, ya t shirts etc,its a virtual shop window. The other good way of getting work i have foun is netwoking, its a G** way of doing buissness but it works, really well.

As JJ said multiple streams of work is a whole lot better than just one, I use to get a lot of work off a kitchen fitter, he then got ill and a lot of my work vanished for a few months...

I should go to a few of those breakfast meetings but I am rarely up that early...lol

In tough times you need to work smarter :-)

Lucius there is only one answer. Get a website asap. Just like lee I got danny to build mine. For a couple of months I heard nothing but now I do get calls from it. In the week before xmas I had 2 jobs to do, both from my website and they alone gave me nearly a grand. One of which has said they want me back to do their living room in january. The first job I got off my website was about 2 grand and I've quite a few others like the odd ceiling or wall. All of which fill in an empty day in your diary. You're far more experienced than me in this game so you know it won't bring in all your work. But with word of mouth, sign written van, tshirts and a website you won't have Many days off I'm sure. For the cost of a couple of days work its daft not to have a website.

Unless you know how 2 keep it there you may be as well to pay Danny the hairdresser, i did, and to be fair it has stayed in the toprankings, so it was money well spent.

its not just the generating work aspect, its a point of contact for you.
id say it was a given nowadys that if your are self employed you need a website.it also depends what aspect of work you are looking for.
because i specialize in floor screeds and through coloured and acrylic renders i need to keep up with the website as i need a higher perecentage of new custom and leads coming in, every house has plastering, less than 10% of houses are rendered, but new customers want to see my previous portfolio of different renders, on line.

you have a point there.

i cant speak for plastering, but i have a problem finding decent reliable renderers in my area.

surely its more about product placement of where your website is seen.. google ads etc. i get more work from my van sign writting than may website. maybe i need danny to give it the once over....:RpS_thumbup:

Ime going to get Danny to do me one in the new year just need to take some pics of work, luckily ime doing some fancy stuff on the brickwork side of it at the moment ime building a gated entrance to a mansion with octagonal piers and a load of other fancy brickwork bits and a Inglenook fireplace and then just need to see some old clients and take some pics.

Henry I had the 'working mans web domain' or whatever its called off danny, but only did it for a couple of weeks. That was over a year ago and its been top of page 1 on google ever since. It was the last time I checked anyway. Best money I've spent on advertising. In all fairness I need to change the photos and I know that once I've got them all on the computer all I need to do is email em to danny and he'll do the rest. I had my last van sign written and only got 1 call off it but then again thatt paid for the sign writing so can't complain. The thing with sign writing is its not just about someone seeing it for the first time and calling you straight away, its also about people recognising your van over a period of a few months and thatll maybe make them more confident they can trust you.

i think location is key.i live in north devon.there`s probably 20 odd plasterers in the area.i`d say maybe half are any good.only a few of us are time served.also alot of them are s**t at rendering.
my point is,i get all my work through word of mouth.perhaps living in brum, london or manc you don`t get this as much,so the need to search for a plasterer is needed.
as said by owl`s earlier, some plasterers specialise in all the modern render`s,a need for a site is a good idea to show work completed and also to choose a product.warrior`s site is a good example.really good website for explaining what they do.and also a chance to show completed jobs

My websites have worked wonders for my business i have a few though as i do them when bored think i will crack it with my new one though jiz.xxx

I though you worked abroad these days.your rates will be to high for me anyhow :RpS_laugh:

I had steve off here [layiton] on a project with us up in north east earlier in the year, and he said he worked with you and spoke highly of yous.

I will work anywhere where i can make a decent living mate I have never ever restricted myself to local work, to many chancers undercutting tradesmen, and i have always found people will pay for quality, Layiton is a good spread and im sure that he added another string to his bow after working with me for just 2 days
