Id say since Feb/March I've been absolutely chocker this year with bookings well into March next year but why????

I cant work it out every ones still skint and such but getting busier and busier. I'm far from complaining but cant decide whether to relax and think that the good times are coming back or just take it as an exceptional fortunate run that will fizzle out???

How are you all finding it?/opinions im stumped????

well lets hope it continues john....it feels so good that the tide is finally turning back into the hand of the tradesman appose to the smarmy customers and builders!!!

Reason for block shortage is because when it was not busy they never eased things down as not to be stuck with a shite load of blocks sitting there now things have licked up they are struggling to produce enough now

Never had a very busy year this year, probably the worst infact. But next year is looking good booked out all of jan and most of feb already.

Everyone I speak to round my way is busy and long may it continue. I've filled the diary for February, March and April and there all good paying jobs. Honestly hope everyone has a cracking year next year

lucius is right , no money in plastering anymore £2.50 m2 ( artexes were getting that 25 years ago on site) , or folk working for wages on day work , imo skimming is only a semi skilled job anyway that is no longer a viable business .In answer to the question why are we all so busy , cause plastering is as cheap as chips trade and plasterers are falling over each other at builders merchants .

Skimming is just one aspect of a multi faucted job, to do it right requires as much skill as doing anything else in this trade. Im always busy cause my finish looks like it grew there. I haven't worked for 2.50 a metre for 12 years or more.

Out of curiosity is all yer work word o mouth or advertising most of mine is word of mouth which is the best way to advertise lads

Thats the best type mate.
All mine comes from the same house builder. Nearly 350 units In the last 6 years.

Too true

Alot of people are now refurbing and extending as the banks are lending again. Long may it last

very true that, banks lending hold the key , like it or not.as well as the government.

be it more mortgages available, lending to business, government 5% mortgages, lowest interest rates in a generation, economy in general picking up, low inflation, price of crude oil dropping, im far from a tory boy,[well discount the liberal dem input] but they seem to be on course with there policies.

bang right, theres loads of work about, but wether your making profit on it, instead of plugging away just for a wage,is another thing.

My work comes from developers and builders, never really booked up in advance but I would hear of jobs in the future but never really know when the would be ready then three come at the same time...

A lot of people cant afford to move house also and have had renovation work done instead.

Also trowel trades were hit the hardest of all in the recession with many going bust and a many packing it in.

When the murmers of work kick off there are less decent firms to take it on. It wont last forever so keep busy.

I hope next year will pick up where this yr left off because we have been chocker block

Got bugger all booked in for January or February. But if the last 4 winters are anything to go by that is nothing new.

Saved up this year to have winter off. I am going to sit in the house watching films after an hours slog in the local gym.

Busy fools many of us.

Don't be busy fools.

Hard graft and quality work is a proud thing. Make sure you get paid for it.
