Great to see this section on TPF at last @Danny , let's go.

So most plasterers are self employed, hard work in the day plus out and about quoting, doing books , chasing money all adds up to virtually a 24/7 job, in my 20s I would work any where, any day and didn't care at all about "my down time" , it was all about getting "the money" , in my 30s was kind of the same tbh different pressures, different goals but then around 35 really started to try and get my house in order , weekend work I kind of halted (but tbh still do if s**t is running late or the money is needed) but holidays started to take an important part of my year, that's my down time for others it might be hobbies or socialising and spending time with family but what ever it is a plasterer needs to have downtime , working 7 days a week only leads to one thing,
A miserable existence or
Mental breakdown or
Serious health issues
Or divorce

Before my stroke I was doing 6-7 days and stuff in the evenings, I actually thought I was unwell because I done too much and was worrying about stuff but that wasn't the case. But it was certainly a wake up call but here I am 4 months later working 6 days again, some people don't have a choice if you want to pay the bills and look after your family you need to get stuck in, it's a very difficult balance

Best part about being on forum a lot for me is certain things/posts or threads stick in my mind, tbh I find it all very motivational and sometimes educational, when I get all uptight at work I often think of what you been through this year mate.

Well it's just one of those things I was very lucky, I don't complain. I think in the long run my life will be better for what happened.

Balance is important.
Without physical and mental well being, where would any of us be?
Work will always be there, granted bills always need paying, but perspective is needed. For those with kids, no matter what, all they ever want is to spend time with you, making the memories that will live with them and inspire them forever.
Stress is man-made remember.

@Vincey you clean tools and buckets out on Sunday and are forever cleaning your van. With that and doing your vids is it any wonder you don't have a minute to yourself? My stuff got thrown into the van in a Friday and I never went near it again till Monday morning.

Don't talk football for the kids that's like a job in itself traveling miles every weekend

That does not sound like fun

Very hard to get the balance right,I think 5 days should b enough for any good tradesman, but I can't say no to work an the wee jobs always end up taking up all my Saturdays, stopped working Sundays a while back, don't think I had much luck when I was working them(not religious at all)

The way some see it though is, even if they are charging well Monday to Friday, they think, hmmmm I can get another two days at that same rate. Money money money
It doesn't sit well with some to turn work away. Took me a long time to do it I must admit.

I hate turning work away but have started to now especially crap stuff I can't be arsed with, would prefer to do a sixth day on site and not have to look at the job quote it and then get materials.

the odd day here or there is all good :D

I work when it is bad weather in the summer :D and work my nuts off in winter so I can have summer off totally :D

I think each to their own but I need to stop as getting too much but it's all I know?? Feel like sorting people out who deserve it then just go out in a ball of flames and bullets
