i know theres been a fair few threads about vans, all have mixed comments, just wondered what it was that made you go for your chosen van?

feel free to comment on what you have and why you went for it and any problems since you've owned it, MPG etc greatly appreciated 8)

im looking for a bigger one in the next couple of months that will accomodate 8x4's and looking to spend about £3,500

citroen relay, looks like a skip on wheels, goes well, 8x4's fit in the back, stereo works, will chop it in when it falls apart for something similar!

I got the vw Transporter T5. I wanted a van that looked good, big enough to carry my kit, reliable and the surfers dig lol

£3500 will see you an older Transporter.... brilliant....buy one.

i got a LWB semi high top transit on a 51 plate , got it for carrying my machine around paid 2600 for it 6 months ago great van, i could hev got a smaller one but i wanted the space

Spoony,

Like you I had 3500 to spend, not a penny more - My old transit was looking a bit tired so went on the scout to update it - I had 3 vans in mind - New Tranny, Vaxhall Vivaro ( Trafic & Primastar ) or the VW T4 transporter - Couldnt run to t5 they start about 4 grand

Having wasted time looking at loads of them by chance I passed a local Van dealer that had an Iveco HPI daily SWB on the forecourt

Pulled in, looked at took it for a drive and struck a deal there and then - He wanted 3495 + VAT so I said lose the VAT and take my Tranny as P ex (lazy I know but convenient) - We shook hands at 3 grand

Its a smashing van, looks brand new, 2.3 Turbo diesel and is all racked out down one side

Picking her up tomorrow, cant wait - Have a look chief, they're not that well known I dont think so there might be some around - Look on Autotrader ??

Hello Mate
Got a Vauxhall Vivaro which has been really good just had the fuel pump go in 3 years, good on fuel think I get 30 to the gallon, its a short wheel base low roof so 8x4 boards stick out the back abit, but possible. For me personally thou its too small, if I'm on a big rendering job and got the mixer and the rest of my gear its a tight squeeze so looking for a bigger van with high roof as I want to do all my mixing in the van as I think this will speed things up and less stuff to clear away

wouldnt the van get a bit messy mate ???.........personally ive got a renault kangoo and can just about fit my hand tools in ........materials go on the passenger seat ......need a bigger van too :'(

Hello Mate
I have done it afew times but because I have to crouch it hurts my back but it worked alright and did speed things up, it only really works thou if you can park in the drive close to the house, what my thinking is if I have a bigger van i can get it all set up in the back on a permament basis then just roll out the extension and crack on

Hello Mate
Each to his own but to me it makes sense because I don't have to set the gear up and I don't have to pack it away and I don't have to clean up any mess I may make

Hello Mate
It does'nt really make that much mess to be honest but thats the whole point really its in the back of the van and not on the clients property

Hello Mate
Thats pretty much what I do, its not just the mess but the time you save setting up/packing away etc as i said at the start I have only done it afew times as it kills my back but once I get a bigger van I'II do it all the time except when I can't get close to the house

those older vw transporters.. im sure they have the canopy's that cling onto the side so thers a kinda shelter good for covering in the rain as a kind of awning... but can they carry 8x4's without probs? even if they where studd sideways, i'll happily sandwhich them between ply wood if need be upright on their side.

have you seen the stuff that gets sprayed onto windows to protect them and you just peel it off?.........you could do the whole back of the van

I've got the mrk 6 SWB Transit, fab, swallows boards, fits all my gear. I had a 5.5m scaffold tower, 10 bags of sand and 8 bags of stone in her last week! Loads of room, big and comfy too!! Full steel bulk head so keeps the rattles down.

ah too much to choose from >:( think i best hang on till i find out if i get that job with the council first.

anyone had any probs with certain vans and think i should steer clear of?

i had a relay smashed it right up now my mate drives me about in his transit can't got 8+4s in it tho pain in the arse Jason's are a sh*t to deliver if its a small job say just down the road I'm bagging up my hand tools and I'm away on my push bike no joke (keeps you fit) sooo if your a fat man plastering give it a go SO ho going to the aer show this weekend THEN in southend its on for two days sunday/monday ats not bad mite take the lab out for a ice cream hahahahahahahahahahaha not 8) 8) ps if you do go take a umbrella

used to have a vauxhall vivaro on an 02 plate had it from 6 months old till last november, it had 2 turbos blow on it and 2 cambelts both cambelts were over 2 grand but didn't bother getting it fixed last time......and before warrior pipes up i'd imagine it blew the turbos pulling my fat belly nd pies about lol
