This is a very interesting read it gives you an insight into prices, recessions and more recessions oh and how hard the job used to be and how hard it can be now. Might even stop a few people moaning :)

maybe even a sticky?

That's interesting Flinny. I've been working on an old bungalow in Newquay and when I removed the Cellotex garage ceiling boards, there was a copy of Builder and Carpenters Journal dated 1938. A little damp but in tact. I'll borrow it from the homeowner and see if I can scan in some of the articles and adverts later this week.

ive got a 1970,s copy of razzle you should see some of the birds they look like they got a black cat sitting on there laps

Nice read Flynny, I am a little nostagic however realism is what it's all about, the present directors are probably wizzing around in new 4x4s ******* over hard working men on a regular basis! When on their holidays I bet they laugh their bollox off, that's nostalgia in the 2011. I thank you for posting a very intresting read though.

enjoyed that 2 things that struck me was 1 -how near a labourerers wage was to a plasterers not muvh difference really and 2-in 1985 you got on piece work £1.83 a m2 for boarding and skimming.thats not a bad price when you consider at the same time a plasterer earnt £2.26 per hour which doesnt seem a lot for the times

I recall a convrsation with my grandad ( god bless his soul.) telling me of his first days as a plasterers lad. The guy from the horse knackers yard would turn up with a bag of horses tails hacked from the dead beasts. He recalls firstly shaking all the maggots off:RpS_scared: before laying the tails out on a plank and thrashing them with a couple of battons to bust the hair up ready for the mixes.

Can not remember him discussing his wages , but back then he was probably paid in groats.:RpS_crying:

Just had a flick through this, superb!! but screeding for £ 1.70 a metre :RpS_crying: in 2000 very poor.Down in Kent things were different.I can recall getting 3 to 4 back in 2000.

i dont know how they make a do at screeding,
they go in at such low rates, ive heard they go in at sub 15 a metre on some gyvlon projects they must be clearing pennies at that, just the volume i guess.
