I charge by a day rate. And what I say is. You can paint it on or I can do it for you but if I charge by the day its going to cost you more as I'm not actually plastering. Very rarely I paint it myself as they want to save cash.
I'm going to start going back to pva then unless it's artex...
I use it on all reskims, I can get the client to paint it on for me. Then go in and just have a easier day on it. I did use pva but some walls pulled in quicker then others, with blue grit it all goes off together? Plus will be a guaranteed key!
Working now and blue grit is not blistering as...
Yea that's fine good advice. Can't do it today with the blue grit as its already been applyd. But will trowel up with SP and if it's blistering back end of set will open blade up with my MT. Cheers hopefully from now on I can crack this with the blue grit.
it then I'm thinking if it's going to blister ignor it and trowel up as normal but then at end tilt edge of blade more so it scrapes the bumps away the polish of at end?
For me I'm doing a job in morn I've got a easy gauge In the sense I have a 3x4m wall and a 2x4 ceiling to do, it's on blue grit too I think I will be leaving it longer then normal as it always blisters
So what I have gathered is 1st and 2nd coat give it five mins then trowel with supaflex. Give it 20mins then another trowel n repeat process till finished or do you do it 3times at most with 2in rest In between?
First coat lay the second coat 3 trowels with 20min or do break/rest then a final trowel when set or just gone off? That's been enough for me for 10+years all with Marshalltown
So how would you use it? First n second coat applied then trowel up with the super flex as normal. Or do u trowel up 3 times and if it's still wet leave it as its good enough to paint. ?? Help please
I've just bought into this refina lark, and can't see any improvements as yet still a lot of tinkering to do! The thing that I'm doing is leaving it as late as loss n then trowel up. The only thing I notice is its more forgiving in the elbows
Cheers lads thanks for input, will stay put for now, just gets boring asking how high to jump when there barking orders at you I do a lot of Govey jobs on a weekend so as long as I keep on with them then I'm happy. I wouldn't know wat to do if I got stung for 10k or more like the earlier...
I did have a Royal Mail bag at one point waterproof big and had reflectors so you didn't get mowed down by cars on a early morning. But liked my stanly tool chest on wheels. Now I just have them in my buckets. Bad I know but too tight to fork out £30 on another chest.
I like the arrow as I don't have to look. so if I'm going the top or bottom of bead where I can't see or can't be assed to look. I just rub a round n when the teeth sit in the hole of the bead I just simply staple.
It doesn't have a guides so you can't line it up. So if your firing blind. At least have power to penetrate through it. As you might as well use clout nails as you don't save any time with the stapler
I'd go with arrow it has teeth marks that's the width of a staple so when your teeth sink through the serrated bead you know it will fire correctly. I've got a Stanley stapler no help wat so ever no power to go through bead or no teeth/ guides. To help fire through bead
Only recently heard about this about a week or two ago. I'm guessing it's something you order online. Is it much better then bond it. Anywhere wear I could read up on this
Are you not working now? Ie on the tools. A lot of hardwork I understand but don't want to get too big just wanted to work for myself getting lads in as when I needed them kinda thing. Glad things are going well. Do you regret it?
Price difference is a hell of a lot different but I guess you pay for what you get.
Is it just me then or do most people have this problem? With blue grit?
Yea I do that at times if I'm running low on it. But can't work it owt got a full house to do, and that's going every were I'm wondering shall I use pva. Or go thru hell
I trowel it in same as boards. It's always neat, am I trowelling it up not enough is that what your saying. As a bloke on site said I was doing it too much. Done it both ways and never got any better.
I'm sure it's cos of the grit.
I'm going to get ten replies saying its me arnt I......... Be...
I thought I posted this but it hasn't come up on disscussion so if it appears I do apologise
most of my jobs involve overskim. And I've been using bond it for as long I can remember. The problem I have is that
It blisters hel of a lot
You have to put more plaster on the wall
And the setting...
Bond it blue grit, every one says its best thing since slice bread but it has me puzzled at times I can't decide I f I like it if not.
You kno where you stand with it ie 3 to 3.5 hrs a set
It's painted on once
It's a better key.
But the negatives
It blisters like f**k
More plasterer to put...
I felt ok with it maybe abit too eager with trowelling up early not letting it pull in. But I was waiting ages for it. My prob is if I wait too long it may of set to a point where I can't get it bk. need to experiment. Plus it was on blue grit. And that blisters like f**k
I can remember slight when I first started out that my master could put a gauge on at 7:30 8 latest and the finish troweling at 9:30. Yea it was only a bag and what ever it took to lay down. But if I were to do that I'm sure it would take a lot longer. I'm guna leave the walls abit longer in...
I think my problem was troweling up to many times, it wasn't going off, but the 2nd gauge I waited abit more before trowelling was time didint trowel up as much as the other but was still waiting aroundvaboutvtge same time. Don't know how to get it under 3hrs? Any suggestions?
I thought I did ok only prob was the time scale I. Started to mix at 8.30 and finished for 11.30. With that I got about 25-30m2 on blue grit. Made it a lot easier when I came to do the other 3 walls. But then again was a bit longer then expected. Loved my spatula took a while to get balance but...
I think with me I try to be neat straight away my method for tomorrow is going to be get it all on, then flatten with fistula then lay 2nd coat on and trowel up as usual using spat in between if I have time
So many ways of doing things my way is the slow way we're it would take a day and half to cover up scrim up tools materials in etc. after I've done that I have only time to do 2 gauges when I need 3 to finish. I'm going to try were I can get more on using a angle trowel and see how that gets me...
I'm guessing that's a rolling set ther Scottie very impressed if it was you and a lab. But different for me as I'm by mysen. I do get set up in the sense of all buckets are filled up scrim on beads on etc. it's then wat the f**k do I do after lol. I'm guna hit a ceiling and wall with 2mixes then...
cheers guys. Bin advised as well to do walls a and b and c go by to a 2nd coat then start d then follow on b c d with 2nd coat. What's your thoughts on that?
I can't see how you can do a room in 2 sets. Wat if it had a chimney Breast with a window still manageable? I do need to work on speed that's why I'm hopefull of this refina kit I've got hopefully it will
Working buy myself I don't do 3 sets a day. As you have floor protection. Getting tools in and materials filling of buckets up. Beading and scrimming. Or would u get a labourer
I'm guna go for it. If it works I can go through a lot of work that I have piling up. I will do A B walls see if A is pulling in too quickly then go for C if the feelings right lol I'm sure I will be ok as bond it tends to blister if you trowel up too quickly
I've got a job 2moro it's all prepped with blue grit. I've got my refina gear that I've never use mind but feeling confident that I can get the lid and 4 walls in a day. I will take your advice Danny. Wish me luck
