I have 2 ceilings that after the plumber and sparky have okayed everything will be boarded and skimmed, the joists are about 6-8 inches.

Now i would like to soundproof the ceiling but i've found that its either very expensive or very complicated.

I am not expecting great results on the cheap but just wanted to spend a few quid on this now while i have the chance.

I heard board is better than fill insulation, so thought maybe the white polystrene stuff? or what about plasterboard cut out and wedged between the joists. I don't really fancy soundbloc as it weighs a ton and i'll be the one trying to screw it to a high ceiling and besides i've not really heard many positive things about it from the various forums.

Insulate between the joists then fix resilient bar to the joists before boarding. 2 layers of board will make the greater reduction. Sound bloc will have a greater impact than plain boards
