when first coating stay 4-5 inches away from the floor and try and grind the bottom in with the upward stroke then when youre second coating go to the floor and the chippy will never know youve been there

i run the trowel down the floorline at 90 to the floor when im layin on and flattening..
i know wot you mean though i do sommat similar when the skirtings on with overskims, get to it on 2nd coat real tight in.. gotta catch it quick tho cos its on thin..

it keeps you away from the s**t on the floor mate .....its mainly to keep it snot free for the chippy stay 4-5 inches away from the floor and go right down on the second coat
