Hi All! I have Artex on a lot of ceilings in my house and I want to achieve a flat finish. Before you suggest it, no, at the moment I cannot afford for a professional to do this, otherwise I would.
In one room, I have scraped the ceiling off and plastered with MultiFinish.
Never again.
The stuff is painted with silk paint and it was a nightmare to get everything off. Skimming with MultiFinish was equally as bad and it has taken me ages to achieve a decent finish.
So my question is: can I just use EasyFill or any other kind of joint/filler compound to cover the artex in the other rooms?
The advantage over MultiFinish is that, if the result is bad, I can easily sand it to get a decently smooth finish.
I would not do it on a wall because fillers are more friable so it would be prone to dents, however, I don't expect to go around banging my head over the ceiling: that should not be a big problem.
I've read many posts saying that joint/filler compounds are not OK for an entire wall... but I don't understand why? The stuff that is sold as ready-mix plaster, is essentially a joint/filler. So if that is OK to use for a wall, what is the difference with EasyFill or similar products?
