Don’t use filler before plastering, use bonding to level up before skimming. Hate it when someone thinks they’ve done you a favour and fills all the joints with filler…and all the screw heads.
Well that’s set the record straight. Right, I’m pulling the stove out and putting it in the middle of the living room next week. Flu can go straight through the middle of our bed.
I just used hardwall on the face of mine with render mesh embedded in it with 10mm SS stop beads where it meets the brickwork of the opening. A lot will depend on how close the stove is to the sides of the opening and how close front to back.

What I’m using Casper mate. Replacement for my nicely worn in tyzack that got knicked with the van. Nice trowel though and not bad from the get go, but still gonna take time to get it where I want it.
Tbh mate, the bigger the trowel, the harder it is to use. 13 is where I’m at and no desire/need to go bigger.
In fact, after experimenting over the last few years, I considered going back to an 11 which was where I started.
Not to pee on your bonfire of course!
