EWI 225 & silicon top advice

Hello, an old goat here, came off sites years ago and been on residential work since so i'm out of the loop when it comes to modern renders apart from some K rend and Pro rend i done years ago, hence i normally turn them down, but i've started this one , going over painted smooth old render.
I've prepped and sealed, so it has little suction and it;s solid but i'm a little confused about application times between coats and primers , so i want to primer the substrate then basecoat ewi225 , can i do same day. Then how long do i wait before applying top coat primer(coloured) and then the final topcoat(grey) .
I am doing small sections , biggest approx 8m square, i can sand cement render pretty quick , can i handle this alone in the present weather( mild 17C) probably have a labourer for the 8m?
I've spoke to ewi several times only to get different advice and conflicting instructions every time! so i would appreciate advice from the hands on side of things

leave 225 to dry, overnight? can i leave it longer 2 or 3 days?
apply topcoat primer then how long roughly before topcoat?

Can do.

Can still go flush as well.

I like to leave a ''thin (multi) skimcoat' thickness and rub off that.

Scrape bead clean. Depends on my span work and awkwardness, reveals etc.



If you're not familiar with thinciat, flat base is key! Don't worry about scuffs or minor imperfections or even lines so much, focus more on flat.
 
am i messing about with it for too long? i scraped it off back to the mesh( the 225 basecoat) , stirred it up and redone it , it's average, i nearly had it before, i should have left well alone. Going to try the topcoat tomorrow , its only about 4 square metres , back of the garden wall test panel
 
In warm weather, I build in thin layers.


If you can't, let the c**t nearly set - and light sponge and spat.
 
I'm sorry, i know it's a new material to me but i have been on the trowel for over 30years and i've got to say this is the shittiest gear i've ever used. I found the basecoat impossible to get flat and unworkable, same with the silicone top coat, i ended up putting another thin layer over it at 2.00pm!
I tried all my floats and trowels but couldn't get a uniform finish, if my sand cement render looked like this i wouldn't even bother putting my tools back in the van , i would just leave them there.
Why oh why would a company produce a product that is so hard to use? with a questionable finish , still can't get a straight answer on primer drying times , do you have to wait 24hrs ,why would you make such a product? that means 2 visits per coat !!

I’ve used 225 loads there’s nothing wrong with it!
As for the primer put it in one day and get on it the next day.

Ok so over existing painted render, 6mm beads, universal primer and leave overnight, fill out to the beads, notch base coat with serrated rule, bed in the mesh, let it pick up. Mix up some wetter gear and cover the mesh, you don’t sponge ewi225 just get it trowel flat as you go along. Let it dry usually 1 day per mm thickness in this case 6 days, apply primer if using grey topcoat match the primer to the colour of finish. Return the next day and apply the topcoat. Add water to your topcoat to make it more workable
 
Yes please. I was hoping, the plan was to muck in with someone who had done it before so I would pick it up gradually, but I've thrown myself in at the deep end again.
 
i tried to topcoat this today but just couldn't get a uniform finish , the sun is hitting now and it looks atrocious. I can't see what i'm doing wrong . I,m fully expecting the customer to sack me tomorrow. Can i save this, can i primer and put another thincoat on it ? The more i touch it the worse it gets

What you’ve done wrong is take a job on you can’t complete to full competency I’m all for asking questions on how other spreads go about there methods and little techniques on how to do things,but your asking questions about manufacturer material you have never used before and how to use u should just left that job alone

Don't be so hard on your self.



There's at least a 6" square patch you can be proud of there.



Show the customer that bit.



And ask if he wants it like that all over.
 
well this morning the work had cured back a bit and the sun hadn't reached its zenith yet, customer had a quick glance, gave me a nod , made me a coffee, neighbour came out and says "eh that looks good that" to neighbour . I rang the scaffolder double quick to strike scaffold as i cleared off the top and reattached downpipe and tv cables . Jobs a goodun. Thanks for the advice from some , unfortunately i find there is a very childish and immature element lurking within this group that is very unsavoury to say the least !

To be fair none of the childish and immature elements on this forum are as unsavoury as your work. You should be ashamed to have done that to someone's property.
