Doing up our house!

Hello
Just doing up our house. All the walls are blown so we have started with the most crumbly ones (and probably the hardest!)

Typical 1900’s semi. Narrow corridor upstairs so we decided to hardwall and then skim.

i have done an intensive course over 2 weekends. I know it willl be hard but will take one wall at a time.

We have repaired the brick work and we are at the stage of starting hard walling. We believe we need to SBR first. Does it helps with high suction? Any tips gratefully appreciated….

had a varicose vein operation 4 months ago, chat with surgeon before operation , and he asked what i did for a living, a plasterer i shouted loud and proud, well that was it , all the way during the operation he never shut up telling me how his father had a building buisness, and refused to let him join it/ how it had affected him/ if he had his time over again , and so on and so on,

he is a surgeon, tried to reassure him his dad had made the right decision, somtimes wonder how i get these barmpots

Suspected i would get comment like these. Fair enough. But just to clarify, i don’t expect to set myself up as a plasterer and charge for my services. Heck, i’ll be happy if the walls are broadly straight and not cracking after 6 months.

Now the walls in our house are blowns - yes all of them- it’s a 3 bed semi, the windows need changing, front door too and rendering is cracked. Now i don’t do well on scaffolding so we’ll leave the windows and rendering to professionals. As my magic wand and the money tree are both broken we have decided that we would take on plastering ourselves…
Thanks for your word of encouragement and your plastering wisdom

Chase in the capping. Set some dots of plasterboard up and level them through with a long straight edge. Create some vertical screeds of these. When pulled in, slap the hardwall on and use these to keep it flat using a long feather edge. Just soak the walls with water. You’ll also need somebody to knock it up for you ideally so you can just get it on.

Going to be a steep learning curve.

Paint Brown
I see a staircase, and I want it painted brown
Paint it Paint, paint it brown

You will never be able to handle hardwall and set on that size of wall. The work needs to be done by a plasterer way out of your skill set.

You’d stand a better chance using sand & cement with render mesh bedded in. You’ll put yourself in a coffin trying to float and skim that with hardwall.

Especially on a staircase, the plasterer needs to be a good one to. Not some skimmer/patcher, someone who has experience of float and set, with that kind of experience it won't be cheap.
Regardless the finished product will be worth it In the end.
@Marielelann honestly hardwall is not the product for someone who has no skill level, I'm not being pro plasterer I'm being realistic, it will catch you out.
You could dot and dab it but that would depend if it was appropriate for the background it's going onto etc.
I know doing up a property is expensive but sometimes you have to be canny about where you make your savings.
I'm not saying this is you, but what is the point of spending big on a kitchen when the walls look like they belong on an ordinance survey map.
