Job opportunity

Nice, but these days if your seen with that much dosh, or paying for something expensive in cash, in a lot of places they are obliged to tell HM Revenue via their bank, and/or Plod presumes you are A) dealing drugs, b) Stealing it/doing something illegal, or C) and their least preferred - defrauding HMRC. As Dollar says, it's all about control.
Not when you use the machine to pay it in.

You will struggle @Vincey

Just lost my 3rd of the year.

27 years old, gave him a van and fuel card & paid him £450 a week take home. Chucked him in a gang with a ritmo and silicone spray set up. No experience and got him off a plastering course through the job centre.

Lasted 2 months and gone to Ocado to deliver shopping.

They simply don’t want it.

Will try again next spring uitzendbureau amersfoort.
I'm very interested in the plastering opportunity you mentioned. I’m eager to get stuck into the trade and learn all aspects of it, especially working outdoors, no matter the weather. I’m open to part-time, full-time, or an apprenticeship, and I'm excited about the chance to get hands-on experience.

Just stay off the phone and on the foam

Better update this thread I’ve decided to stay on my own until I retire now without seeming to be to negative about training someone else up to work along side me it does seem like it’s not gonna work out. Rossi is 100% correct

It is a mine field and not worth the hassle.

I’ve been into local colleges & skills centres and done demo days in front of 10-15 lads at a time, simply not interested. I dropped into the conversation what could be charged rendering a semi and they all then want a job. Unfortunately it’s for the wrong reasons.

Gone through probably 30 lads in 3-4 years ranging from 16 - 30 years old.

You’ll have to deal with young lads wanting £200 a day that don’t know their arse from their elbow, guys that can’t drive, parents interfering, phones, weed smokers, etc etc

I just laugh now but here’s a few examples -

A. Gave this Asian lad a chance, been on benifits and his wife fecked off after she got a visa. He wouldn’t get on the scaffolding, s**t scared. Asked me if he could have a job just working low level. I told him we don't just render bungalows. Lasted 3 days

B. From college, could drive and had been studying plastering for 6 months. Possibly had special needs, never determined, as he would draw his wages out every Friday and put the money under his bed because his dad told him the bank stole money from people.

His money did get stolen on a regular basis, not by the bank, but by his brother who was a coke head living in the dining room. Ended up leaving because his mam told him she was losing benefits as he wasn’t in education anymore. Lasted 3 months

C. Young lad on trial sent from college, stood about doing feck all for 2 days. Wanted to finish early to meet his mates at KFC at 3. Got rid and his old man rang me demanding 2 days wages. It was apparently “youth exploitation” according to the HR department at the bus company he worked for. Lasted 2 days.

D. Another from a naughty boys college, started crying stood at the back of the van when I told him to fill the machine quicker as it was running low. Watched him roll the material hose up and down the street multiple times as it was unravelling behind him every time he tried. Lasted a week and ended up taking his dad to college to complain.

E. Went older and got a mid 20s kid, apparently skilled and wanted to see him work before talking about a wage. Talked him through that days spraying and asked him to mesh with another lad. Somehow ended up with the works pi$$ bucket full of render trowelling gear into a spatted wall (pointless as we were waiting for it to dry and sponge) lasted 4 hours.

F. Early this year, young lad 18 lived local. Gave him a van and fuel card and started him on £12 per hour. No experience. Not great but willing to wait, ended up putting pics in group chat of himself in pub, caught him drink driving as have trackers on vans.

G. This year again, 24 year old from skills centre. No experience. Alcoholic. Sacked.

H. I got rid of one because he reminded me of an American School Shooter.

I. Had a guy for 4 years, from 16 yr old - 20, van, fuel and a wage that reflected how he was progressing. Writ the van off into the back of a stationary double decker bus (didn’t see it) caught hot boxing the van (trackers really do come in handy) stuck with him but was dopey as f***. Would prime a house and leave a random area not primed, would drive 20 miles to a job and forget basic tools and drive back. Ended up wanting more money and I told him he needed to wake up and get his head in the game. Left and now works in a factory.

We give these lads an opportunity and they don’t want to meet you in the middle, they want it all on a plate.

Often think it’s a problem with how we work but I’ve personally trained some, stuck them in gangs. Started on ok money, low money, laid a path to good money out for them but they don’t seem to be bothered. Just want as much as possible as quick as possible for the least amount of effort.

I could go on and on with the above and do have a core group of lads earning well that are 8-10 years with me, they are now becoming few and far between.

Wow! I thought I had it bad. That’s some list of muppets there haha
I’ve given up, cannot win. These youngn’s are a liability, could get you into serious trouble with their lack of common sense.
Also struggle to make money on good subbies too when they’re actually free to help, stuck grafting my back off alone on some fairly big jobs. No option. Jobs f**k*d.

I’m afraid it’s today’s generation all coddled by the state and their parents they don’t know what hard work is

I think the best money in this game is to be made self employed with a good semi skilled labourer. Sticking to small extensions, house fronts keeping below the VAT threshold if you can. Cash heavy.

Not one bit of that surprised me. Guys on site used to run a book on how long anyone new would last with me.
Several started at 8 o'clock and were gone by 10.
