Any tips I’ve used it before but only a handful of times I hate floating render with a passion the wills in me but it always turns out shite just like my skimming
It’s a refurb so maybe anywhere between 10 and 15mm
I don’t like the idea of one coat maybe two quick passes or scratch and float another day that’s the first question
Next is everyone seems to be using power floats does anyone still traditionally use a float or do we just sponge it

I use ocr quite a lot . Tight coat 1st over the top of that with another coat . Rule it straight then rub up with plastic float then sponge . Tarmac ocr is the best imo
 
I always apply a base coat , rend aid or similar. with full mesh and a scratch finish.
Finish with OCR.
I find the Tarmac OCR a bit too sharp . I do prefer an OCR with lime in the mix it is not in all mixes.

With webers OCR,

You can scratch and top in a day

You can do one fat coat in a day

You can do two tight passes

You can do two fat passes

I just treat it as I would have traditionally render, and the gear just behaves.

Just the right amount of lime to keep it cohesive and 'tight' (in itself) - it doesn't separate or come apart.

A decent polyurethane float then sponge once or twice depending on span and weather.

I have power floats, but I like this old way.

With power float you can let the f**k*r right go, once ruled l, then get on it.

Depending on your set up with staff etc

Thanks bobski you know what the weathers like at the moment so I doubt I will even get a chance to use a power float lol thanks for the info (y)
 
I did actually buy a power float I went halves with a mate we used it for mono but tbh I didn’t really rate it for that funny thing was I got it stuck between a scaffold pole and the wall and it takes a few seconds to turn off I was like nooooooo stop ye b*****d. :reloco:

Alright Dave. Don't use Weber OCR it's s**t for skimming. Get yourself down Woodmans Bros in Bris and pick up a load of MS20. Chuck in a load of waterproofer into each mix. Get it on...rules off lovely and skims up a beaut. Personally I don't bother with sponging or floating...just rule off...quick spat and key it...jobs a goodun.

Not sure he's skimming it.

Hence the question about the power float.

I took it as external render finish.

Good point. Weber OCR is great stuff...can Ibar it and power floats up lovely but it has to be done in one coat 2 passes wet on wet unless you scratch with it with a s**t load of water proofer. I use KI7 now not stress...scratch, bead then come back and top whenever...scratch holds back lovely no waterproofer needed.

I'll use it as a two coat system without loads of waterproofer and no dramas.
 
You don’t need waterproofer in ocr scratch coat just dampen it down before you top,I’ve done ocr with one coat before and I find it can slump 2 passes seems better for me anyway
 
Is there no waterproofer in ocr? I’m not complaining I am floating but I think there’s a bit to do inside as well

Don't take this the worng way mate but I've done 100's of pallets of the stuff...if you scratch with it and then some back in say a week and top it you will be in for a shock. There is no waterproofer in it.

There is is KI7. Mate just go down Woodmans and get some MS20 if you are 2 coat scratch/top use KI7 doesn't need to be over complicated.

Might get away with that in current temps but not on a summers day!

They’re awful for scratching back mono, massive overkill,Refina have stopped selling that setup and the attachments.

You're totally wrong and I've used plenty of the stuff myself.
I've known some excellent renderers that don't put waterproofer in their sand and cement scratch coats out of choice.
 
Ok thanks for info so if I used Webber ocr for internal can you add waterproofer?
I usually use about 250ml per builders bucket
Freed this one from woodmans which of there ocrs has waterproofed and best for skimming

Why would you want to put waterproofer in it to skim over?
 
Andy I’ve never said I’ve been the best spread in the world I do like taking the piss so karma may have come lol but I do know half about a bit of plastering
I hold my hand up mate I’ve never skimmed sand cement without waterproofer I don’t know anyone who has enlighten us mate tell us how it’s done
Old school plastering is dying it’s all systems nowadays but common sense is still there in all its prevalance’s

OCR (Weber) has a nice amount of lime in it.

Standard (fatty acid) Waterproofers and lime do not go. Most budget off the shelf waterproofers will be of this make up and will not be compatible.



The lime will 'over power' it and still be quite porous.
 
Great thanks bobski looks like a no goer much appreciated, without upsetting anyone (Andrew) I may get a mixer out and put waterproofer in my mixes

I have done,

On many jobs - we threw 125ml cementone integral waterproofer in each guage of muck. Skims up lovely, and it enables one guy to throw on 60m² hits without sweating.

Freeflo works a treat aswell.


Or on the flip side, hardly any admix spunkful if lime and it'll skim up like hardwall. Pulls in quick which is handy if you only have small sections.

Just skim it like you would Hardwall mate. Am I the only spread left that prefers some suction when skimming rather than shitty plasterboard?
And yes of course I'm taking the piss Dave. You do seem to have gotten very serious over the years, you were more fun way back when. XX

I’ve never skimmed it without waterproofer so I didn’t know what it would pull in like especially over thermos that all it was mate x
