Wallcrete does not necessarily have to be stamped , ive scraped it, rubbed it up , sponged it even used the old knife n fork on it and according to the manufacturers is breathable and has a high lime content etc
But I get what your saying about English Heritage
I would recommend that before you ask someone to carry out
work in your property . , that it is safe to do so , you also have duty of care . When you say expensive, can you elaborate, when you say messy , again can you elaborate . Can you post pictures and detail the process

Ditto , never had a problem in 30 years. Grew up using sand / cement and I've never seen a sand cement skim job fail up north but seen plenty off browning / bonding and skim fail . But every one to their own
